“Your testimonies are wonderful; Therefore my soul keeps them. The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple. I opened my mouth and panted, For I longed for Your commandments. Look upon me and be merciful to me, As Your custom is toward those who love Your name. Direct my steps by Your word, And let no iniquity have dominion over me. Redeem me from the oppression of man, That I may keep Your precepts. Make Your face shine upon Your servant, And teach me Your statutes. Rivers of water run down from my eyes, Because men do not keep Your law. Righteous are You, O Lord, And upright are Your judgments.”
Psalms 119:129-137 NKJV
Tightrope
The world appears to be in a spiral, moving as if flushing down a vortex of a toilet of cosmic proportions, leading ultimately to disaster. Each day there are renewed warnings, as wars and rumors of wars are ever pressed into the psyches of the earth dwellers.
We are in information overload, as all the media outlets are vying for supremacy, seeking to illicit the reactions that will bring them the best ratings. Each appears to be trying to point people in opposing directions, resulting in division and even more conflict and confusion.
It is easy to find oneself directionless, wandering around looking for some semblance of truth, and finding none. What is left for the wanderer is the emptiness of this world, devoid of direction, and filled with a myriad of alternatives that ultimately leave one lost and confused.
I am thankful that the word of God exists, as I a timeless guide, unchanging, and increasingly relevant as the time appears to be winding up according the Lord’s plan. Reading Psalm one hundred nineteen yet again, I was reminded how sure and steady the word of the Lord is, as it serves as an anchor in these stormy seas of uncertainty we are experiencing.
I am made glad to have the word, for by the end of any given day, I fall into bed exhausted, overwhelmed by the world’s troubles. I rise early to look into the word, way before first light. I find that it gives me some hope before I enter another troubled day filled with ruminations.
In many ways the word of God is my true first light, as it draws my attention to the Lord.
“I cry out with my whole heart; Hear me, O Lord! I will keep Your statutes. I cry out to You; Save me, and I will keep Your testimonies. I rise before the dawning of the morning, And cry for help; I hope in Your word. My eyes are awake through the night watches, That I may meditate on Your word. Hear my voice according to Your lovingkindness; O Lord, revive me according to Your justice.”
Psalms 119:145-149 NKJV
Jesus has given me access to God, and the power of the Holy Spirit to help me. His word was gibberish to me when I was unsaved, now it is a never ending journey as I discover the mind of God.
In Him I have direction, as I learn to walk rightly, by the Spirit and not the flesh. This is essential in these days, where confusion is the tool of the evil one, for he desires that we wander aimlessly away from God.
Brothers and sisters, let us read our bibles daily, as we seek the direction of the Lord. The path is growing more and more narrow, almost as narrow as a tightrope, and the hazards more deadly for those who fall.
We have been given the word and the Holy Spirit that we be able to navigate through these perilous times, and fulfill the mission the Lord has given us. The word equips us for the task, and serves an effective prophylaxis against the toxins and things that ail this world.
The word gives us instruction and the knowledge of the wiles of the devil, that we walk in righteousness.
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
II Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV
Make the word of God your greatest pleasure today, and pray that the Lord give you a burden for those who do not keep the word, that you be willing to go and tell them about Jesus.
