“My flesh trembles for fear of You, And I am afraid of Your judgments. I have done justice and righteousness; Do not leave me to my oppressors. Be surety for Your servant for good; Do not let the proud oppress me. My eyes fail from seeking Your salvation And Your righteous word. Deal with Your servant according to Your mercy, And teach me Your statutes. I am Your servant; Give me understanding, That I may know Your testimonies. It is time for You to act, O Lord, For they have regarded Your law as void. Therefore I love Your commandments More than gold, yes, than fine gold!”
Psalms 119:120-127 NKJV
Tremble
The heaviness of my heart often awakens me in the night. As I see time progressing toward its terminus, I think of what is to come and I tremble. I think of all the people who doing not know the Lord. They go about life, sinning and sinning, as if there will be no consequence. Little do they know the consequence is coming, and those who are without Jesus will have no recourse.
As a follower of Jesus, I recognize the reality that I serve a dangerous God. He has brought me to the end of myself, and yet He has sustained me. I stand in awe of Him, not the superficial, reverential variety, though I certainly revere Him greatly. But I mean the deep and primal fear, as a creature in the light of his Creator. I know that He holds my next heartbeat, my next breath.
Once again in Psalm one hundred nineteen, in full rejoicing, have a renewed love for the One who saved me. I am thankful that myfear is no longer that of an adversary, but as one protected, like a baby eagle under the cover of an Eagle mother’s powerful wings.
Even in the time of trouble, the Lord walks with me, shielding me, securing my soul, having set aside a place with Him in eternity.
“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Romans 8:28-31 NKJV
To hold to the word of God, to fear God, is to be open to ridicule and mocking in the world we live in today. We are living in a time when each person has made himself god, and each is receiving the recompense of such a foolhardy belief. The headlines are filled with increasingly lurid stories of murder and mayhem, as the godlessness of this world comes to fruition.
It is in these times that follower of Jesus must abide in Jesus, poring over the word of God for in it is life and truth. As the servants of the Most High God behind enemy lines, we need the understanding of the Lord. When I look at all that is happening, I can become overwhelmed. When I contemplate the calamities that are multiplying in my prayer list, I could easily lose heart.
By the word of God I have access to One who knows the end from the beginning, who holds all of eternity, who holds the persecuted and the persecutor. He is sovereign.
Brothers and sisters, we are nearing the end of this world as we know it, and the Lord is even now preparing the soil for the sowing and great harvest to come. Read the word! It is the very life line to our God, as we fight against the flood of unrighteousness that threatens to sweep us under.
We must go and present the Gospel to a world that has deemed the word null and void. We know that it has the power to save. Let us be faithful to go and tell. God has given us a great treasure, worth more that the finest gold. He is all we need.
“Nevertheless I am continually with You; You hold me by my right hand. You will guide me with Your counsel, And afterward receive me to glory. Whom have I in heaven but You? And there is none upon earth that I desire besides You. My flesh and my heart fail; But God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.”
Psalms 73:23-26 NKJV
