“Remember therefore how you have received and heard; hold fast and repent. Therefore if you will not watch, I will come upon you as a thief, and you will not know what hour I will come upon you. You have a few names even in Sardis who have not defiled their garments; and they shall walk with Me in white, for they are worthy. He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”
Revelation 3:3-5 NKJVClothed
There are so many things battling for my attention. Our world is bursting at the seems with discord and negative energy. We are consumed and overwhelmed to the degree that is hard for even the believer to hear the voice of God. I have the advantage of being alone most of my time. I have greater control over what I choose to let into my mind. I am finding that I have limits to what I can stand. I spend my mornings listening to worship music, praying and writing. This helps me to shut out all the noise.
The danger of the noise is that weakens the draw of God on one’s life. the louder voices in the world beckon, and we find ourselves being drawn away. I just started reading through Revelation as part of my annual read through of the bible. I have to admit, I am feeling a much deeper connection to this book than I have in the past. So many of these signs of things to come are happening around me, and so many scenarios, seemingly unlikely, are coalescing, and becoming plausible.
I am in chapter three and reading about the church in Sardis. In this church, people appear to have found themselves adrift and not watching for the Lord’s return. I suspect they were not doing the things for which they were called. I can imagine that they had gotten caught up in the realities of the world, and were distracted. I see many similarities to the time that were living in today, as so many have seemingly laid aside the work of the Gospel, to pursue the concerns of this world.
There are times when I wonder if anyone will be left when the Lord comes to take His church home. We have become so compromised, so oriented to the values of the world. Ironically, the harvest is white right now, but the workers are few. They are just too busy. Brothers and sisters, now is the time to be watching, to be praying, to be sharing the Gospel, as we sense the time is short.
Let us not soil our garments.
I am thankful that God is all knowing. There are believers in every walk of life, who resist the draw of the world, and go about focused on the Lord. God is filling them with His Holy Spirit and using them to continue the work and encourage others to come along. He is watching, and assessing our hearts. Believers, let us eschew the things of this world, and make the Lord the priority of our lives. Jesus made us the priority of His when He laid it down to pay for our sins. By His power we can go and do the work and overcome. By His sacrifice, we have eternity in heaven and place in the Book of Life.
“He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels.”
Revelation 3:5 NKJVLet us be vigilant in looking forward to the coming of the Lord and not caught up in the confusion of this present world. I long to be clothed in white, eternally with the Lord, having done all I could by His power to share the message of the Gospel.
““He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” ’”
