In light of eternity

“And in that day you will say: “Praise the LORD, call upon His name; Declare His deeds among the peoples, Make mention that His name is exalted. Sing to the LORD, For He has done excellent things; This is known in all the earth. Cry out and shout, O inhabitant of Zion, For great is the Holy One of Israel in your midst!””
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭12:4-6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In light of eternity

In the passage I read today, Israel had come through many things and God delivered them. In this prophetic passage we are reading of the response to the great victory that God will deliver over the enemies of the nation. God keeps His promises. As I go through my own life, I know by that example that the Lord will also be there for me. The key for me is to focus on all the blessings that He has brought into my life.

Every day has a victory. Some of them are big, some of them small, but God is the one who brings them. There is often a tendency to become angry when bad things happen. Some might even become angry at God for allowing these trials to come into life. In those moments we forget the blessings that the Lord brings everyday.

I can tell you that bad things have flooded into my life over the last twenty years. I went from a relatively healthy, strong man to the quivering mess that I am today. I often dream about that former self. I could go about blaming God and being miserable. I look for the reasons for the suffering and what He is trying to develop in me. I have learned that dwelling in the negative gives birth to more negative. Instead I keep track of each day’s blessing.

In the accounting, I see that the Lord has blessed far more than He has cursed. Even in those moments when bad things have happened, there is always a worse case scenario that did not happen.

This morning I awoke refreshed. I slept well and had some great dreams. My dad usually appears somewhere in my dreams, and last nights was wonderful. Every aspect of my morning has been positive so far and I am rejoicing in His love for me. Yes, there is pain. Yes there are concerns, but Jesus is glorified.

When I consider the day to day, I look at all things in the light of eternity. All the things in my life are but momentary blips. I have learned to look past the thing in front of me. I focus on the next step, even if that next step is on streets of gold. You see, there is no problem, situation of person that can separate me from the love of God.

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:38-39‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In the passage before this one, Paul wrote of the struggle he and his associates faced as they spread the Gospel. Rather that be struck by the problems, the gloried in the power of the Lord.

Hardship is a part of life. On my worst days I think of Jesus, nailed naked to a cross, having been humiliated beyond measure, yet forgiving those who abused Him. He went through that for me. In light of that, I can endure.

In whatever you may experience today, know that God is for you, Christian! He will deliver you!

Now, go out and serve your King!
