Folly

“Why do the nations rage, And the people plot a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against the Lord and against His Anointed, saying, “Let us break Their bonds in pieces And cast away Their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens shall laugh; The Lord shall hold them in derision. Then He shall speak to them in His wrath, And distress them in His deep displeasure: “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion.” “I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ” Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭2:1-12‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Folly

So many things are happening in our world that have the potential to change the nature of how life is conducted. We have viruses that seem to not end, finding new variations that thwart efforts to vaccinate or treat. There are political issues that seem insurmountable, even though some of the greatest minds have tried to fix them. There seems to be end to war, and peace is fleeting, if it is found at all.

There is much striving, as mere mortals seek to address supernatural problems through natural means.

Folly!

Even with failure common and even certain, humanity insists on ignoring God, resisting divine insight, as if to tell God: “We got this…”. Well…we don’t got this, and things appear to be getting worse and worse, the more we try.

Over the past few months, I have seen the posts of others in social media express their frustration with not being able to fix the problems of the world, and pointing the fingers at those they feel are standing in the way, seemingly bent of destroying things. In reality it is all a matter of perspective, as one man’s effort to build is seen by another as an effort to destroy, thus triggering this tug of war over the culture that is threatening everyone.

As I made my way into day two of my multi pronged read through of the bible, I happened on the truth of Psalm 2. Humanity has been about denying God since the garden, seeking to cast off the divine patterns and rules found in Scripture, and do as they desire.

“Professing to be wise, they became fools, and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”
Romans 1:22-25 NKJV

History is rife with futility, as man never is able to accomplish his goals, and only creates more problems, which are ironically blamed on God.

God laughs.

We forget that God is sovereign, establishing the steps of humanity. There is nothing that is conceived in the heart of humanity that escapes the attention of God. There are no surprises.

“A man’s heart plans his way, But the Lord directs his steps.”
Proverbs 16:9 NKJV

In these late days, of fast fading earth, we are seeing humanity making every effort to save itself, all the while embracing self destructive beliefs that guarantee its doom. We are living a world that has all but erased the hand of God from everything, and has been set adrift. There is coming a day when the efforts of the world will be rewarded, as the wages of global sin are paid.

“For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them.”
Romans 1:18-19 NKJV

I believe that we are seeing the time when God has given humanity over to its own desires, and judgement by the Son is coming soon.

Even as the consequences of sin mount up, humanity doubles down on its desire to control its own path, a path leading to hell.

Brothers and sisters, let us cling to Jesus as the world around us is marching lock step into oblivion. Let us behave as if we are aliens, belonging to an other worldly kingdom, because that is what we are. We are sojourners on this planet, earth born, but heaven bound. May we be guided by the Word that created us.

Let us never cease to go and tell, to warn of what is to come. The signs are everywhere, and even the most lost among us can see that there is no long term for this world. We must be bold.

Don’t worry about what you need, or what may come against us. We are called to be on mission. Jesus has promised that He would be with us.

“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”
Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV

The end of the age is coming soon. May we be consumed with the sharing of the Gospel and building up of the saints, as this life is but preparation for eternity to come.
