“When I shut up heaven and there is no rain, or command the locusts to devour the land, or send pestilence among My people, if My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land. Now My eyes will be open and My ears attentive to prayer made in this place.”
‭‭II Chronicles‬ ‭7:13-15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Quite often I have heard this passage. Conservative politicians use it, pundits use it. Most have the idea that we can somehow make the nation a better place by doing what it says. Indeed, if those in the Christians faith were to actually put words into action, things would certainly improve. But it wasn’t written for direct application to our nation and time. In reality, it is pretty much taken out of the context as it was intended. It was a promise to the nation Israel. The Old Testament is the foundation of our faith. It does not, however apply directly to us in America. But, by way of application it, it is vast treasure trove for the believer. A spirit of repentance results in a greater intimacy with God and greater access to the power of the Gospel.

In those words, I know that God is there for me. Just as the Solomon led the people in the dedication of the temple made of stone and mortar, I know that those words apply to my temple made of flesh and blood. Where before God dwelt in buildings made by the hands of man, He now dwells in temples made from water, blood and filled with the Holy Spirit. The glory that fell upon the structure that Solomon built, now resides in those who call upon the name of Jesus for salvation.

In the previous passages, Solomon tells of the blessing and the curse. All of this applies to me. I have learned that sin has consequences, as the blessings of God can be shut off, and joy dried up. It is in a spirit of repentance that I can see again the vast blessings of Almighty God in my life.

The action of God is multi fold, as we have the advantage of Jesus coming down to die for our sins, to pay the debt, and makes us joint heirs to the kingdom. In the transaction of God and sinful man, we are dedicated as His temple. He has saved me from my sins, He has taken away my condemnation, and He has given me the power to resist sin. He has taken away a destiny in hell, and replaced it with one promising eternal life with Jesus in Heaven.

Believers, let today be the day of dedication. The God lays blessing and cursing before you. In Jesus, you have salvation and the promise of the Kingdom. We are in a time when it is crucial for God to hear our prayers. When one is wrought with unconfessed sin, the great blessings are closed off like rain shut up in heaven. We must have a spirit of repentance, turning from sin.

We are surrounded by unbelievers, people who do not know the salvation of God, and are destined for hell. We must be about the business of sharing the Gospel, of leading the lost to Jesus. We are taking the temple of God on the road, making it portable, that many can see the glory of the King of Heaven.

Pray today, confess today, turn from sin today, and seek the face of the Lord. We have many people in need of healing.
