Eyes up here!

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭121‬:‭1‬-‭8‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Eyes up here!

It is election season, when Americans seek to hire broken, sinful people to do their bidding, which is most often focused on the acquisition of power over others. I have found that there are few who truly stand for the common good, but instead, we are preoccupied with controlling the behaviors of those they perceive to be in opposition.

Those of the conservative persuasion, push for laws that seek to define what marriage is, protect the lives of babies in the womb; but little concern for those outside, and limit the numbers of people who come into the country just as their ancestors did. They seek to convince the rest of us that they are colorblind, though everything they do out of impulse, screams bias.

The liberals seek to push the agenda of various abominations, trying desperately to convince people that men are women, that same sex attraction is equal to what God ordained, and they want to defund police, all the while doing away with cash bail so that criminals have a revolving door at the jail house. Then they go into denial when the blood starts to flow in the streets. They are paternalistic toward darker people, and even their actions scream bias.

After a lifetime of observing the political pendulum swing back and forth, this will be the first time that I am choosing not to vote. It is a personal decision and I don’t intend to draw anyone after me.

I have come to the understanding that all that we do is vanity, grasping at wind. I look upon the whole process as Solomon looked upon all that he had accomplished.

“Then I looked on all the works that my hands had done And on the labor in which I had toiled; And indeed all was vanity and grasping for the wind. There was no profit under the sun.”
Ecclesiastes 2:11 NKJV

In the life that I have lived, I have come to one inescapable conclusion: my help comes from Lord.

Reading Psalm one hundred twenty one was a great, and much needed reminder, for the season of arm twisting has begun. I have begun to get the usual videos and memes, extolling the virtues of a given political philosophy, thinking that if they just cram my mailbox a little more I will somehow think their way. It doesn’t work.

When I consider the trials I have endured these many years, soon to be sixty two (ugh), I cannot remember a time when a politician showed up to walk beside me. But the Lord has always been there.

“I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep.”
Psalms 121:1-4 NKJV

He kept Israel, and He keeps me, for His faithfulness to His chosen people are an example of what I can expect. The Lord has been more than faithful, having carried me through the fire and through the flood. From my first anguished cry, and until my final breath, I know that my Lord will carry me, will comfort me, and will welcome me into heaven.

“But now, thus says the Lord, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.”
Isaiah 43:1-2 NKJV

As a follower of Jesus, He has made a way for me, that I be adopted into the beloved, joint heir with Christ, and subject to the heavenly promises of God.

Brothers and sisters, fear not. As we approach this coming election, remember that our God is sovereign, and everyone who is elected to office is there by His hand for His purpose. Just as our forerunning brothers and sisters withstood the horrors of Nero, we may endure the horrors of the Harlot. We must remember that the system that we are putting our hopes in, belongs to her.

We cannot possibly win playing by her rules.

We are the children of Sovereign God, the One who is the maker of heaven and earth. As you go and vote, be mindful that the Lord controls the outcome, and the results are not to your liking, do not fret, but wonder what the Lord is up to.

We are seeing the Lord do wondrous things, as He is preparing the world for His return. The instability is all part of that preparation, and should not be feared.

“Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”
Matthew 24:3-8 NKJV

The coming season will be of the Lord’s making, and no mere mortal, regardless of politics persuasion can fix it. But we can have peace, knowing that our Lord is in control. Rejoice my people! You know the Lord, who is your Keeper!

“The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, Nor the moon by night. The Lord shall preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord shall preserve your going out and your coming in From this time forth, and even forevermore.”
Psalms 121:5-8 NKJV

“Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.””
Revelation 21:1-5 NKJV
