““Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” And so it was, when Jesus had ended these sayings, that the people were astonished at His teaching, for He taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”
Matthew 7:24-29 NKJV
Crisis plan
We are entering a time when the foundations of the earth are going to be tested, for a vast storm is coming, and anything not built upon a solid foundation will fall. Institutions that we have come to rely on, will be shattered, and the weakness inherent in them will be revealed with tragic circumstances.
Even this week, we witnessed the devastation in Florida, as Hurricane Ian ran through communities, rich and poor alike. It was most devastating in communities that did not heed the potential of storms, as some neighborhoods were designed with waterways. It will take years for all to made as it was, if it will ever.
The words of Jesus in Matthew chapter seven are a warning in these times, for the storm of all storms is coming, and we can see the first winds blow, and there is the smell of rain in the air.
Many of us have built our houses of sandy foundations, on things that will not and have not stood the test of time. There are those who invest in businesses, in finances and things not securely built. Those things will be tested first, for all the indicators are that our economy is about to nosedive, as even the retail giants are making places to lay off millions.
There are those who make their foundation in family, hoping that their relationship will stand the storm and provide them security. The pressures of these times will cause many a marriage to implode, as external pressures create internal stresses that lead to many disputes.
It is only one thing that can help people weather what is to come, and that is the Lord Jesus Christ. The Lord has given us His word, complete and available that we have a firm foundation. In it we have the Lord’s own crisis plan, laid out, tried and true. All thing built on this rock will stand.
Security begins with salvation in Jesus. Jesus came to earth, lived as one of us, and went to the cross for our sins. He endured the crisis of the cross, was buried and rose again. Because of Him, we who believe God, no longer fear death, the ultimate of crises, for our Lord has overcome death, and not even that can separate us from His love.
No storm, no enemy, nothing can overcome the connection we have with Jesus.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:35-39 NKJV
Brothers and sisters, we have the rock to stand on, as we serve a Lord who created all things, and will still stand in the end when all is said and done. Jesus holds creation in Himself, for all that all that we hold dear, consists in Him.
“And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.”
Colossians 1:17-18 NKJV
Because all consists in Him, we can have confidence that all we have entrusted will be secure. The material things of this world are passing away, but the eternal things are held fast. Let us focus on those things. Let us be about reading the word of God, in constant prayer, pursuing holiness, for these are the solid things on which we should be founded.
Even as we serve the Lord in these times, He is building a place for us. He is building His bride, the New Jerusalem, in which the saints, old and new, will inhabit on the new Heaven and new earth. It will not only be built upon and rock, but will be built by the Rock.
“Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and talked with me, saying, “Come, I will show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.” And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the holy Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God, having the glory of God. Her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal. Also she had a great and high wall with twelve gates, and twelve angels at the gates, and names written on them, which are the names of the twelve tribes of the children of Israel: three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. Now the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve apostles of the Lamb.”
Revelation 21:9-14 NKJV
Let us read the Scriptures and do what they say, that we have that solid foundation in the face of the coming crisis. Let us walk fearlessly, committing ourselves to going and telling others of the Gospel, that they have the same hope that we have.
Have a blessed Sunday!
