“The Lord reigns; Let the earth rejoice; Let the multitude of isles be glad! Clouds and darkness surround Him; Righteousness and justice are the foundation of His throne. A fire goes before Him, And burns up His enemies round about. His lightnings light the world; The earth sees and trembles. The mountains melt like wax at the presence of the Lord, At the presence of the Lord of the whole earth. The heavens declare His righteousness, And all the peoples see His glory.”
Psalms 97:1-6 NKJV
The Lord reigns
When I awaken to a new day, experiencing the pains and travails that linger from the previous, I am thankful that the Lord reigns, and will one day soon, reign completely. This is what gives me the desire to get out of bed and face what may come with confidence and joy.
Each and every day, the signs of the times are more evident, as the world we live in is nearing the breaking point. Each day I hear the word, “unprecedented”, or phrases that exclaim that nothing like this has ever happened before. The scary part, is that we are just seeing the tip of the horrible iceberg that is lurking menacingly beneath the surface.
I find that I have placed the focus of my mind on a future time, when the Lord has returned, when Jesus reigns with the Father, and life on earth will be as it was meant to be.
“And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.””
Revelation 21:3-5 NKJV
I needed Psalm ninety seven this morning.
We are entering a storm, with deep, darkening skies, but the Lord has given us strong shelter. As followers of Jesus, we know that we have a future and hope, not based on temporary things, but based on an eternal God who is the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end.
Reading through Psalm ninety seven, I can see the power of the God who saved my soul, who created all things, and holds the future in His hands. We need not fear what is to come, for we have been assured that He has the power to keep us, preserve us to the outermost.
None of the enemies that we will face can stand against our God.
We have a great cloud of witnesses that have gone before us, who can testify to the faithfulness of our God. Whether they were delivered from travails, or fell to the sword, they knew that there would be a promise one day.
Some of them were preserved, and others fell, but all had faith and will day be resurrected into the promise.
“Women received their dead raised to life again. Others were tortured, not accepting deliverance, that they might obtain a better resurrection. Still others had trial of mockings and scourgings, yes, and of chains and imprisonment. They were stoned, they were sawn in two, were tempted, were slain with the sword. They wandered about in sheepskins and goatskins, being destitute, afflicted, tormented— of whom the world was not worthy. They wandered in deserts and mountains, in dens and caves of the earth. And all these, having obtained a good testimony through faith, did not receive the promise, God having provided something better for us, that they should not be made perfect apart from us.”
Hebrews 11:35-40 NKJV
Many of us will feel the pressures of persecution, but we know that one day our great God will bring true justice. In our current state, we cry out, “how long?”, but the Lord is working.
Brothers and sisters, do not be discouraged at what is going on in our world, for out of it will come a world that is glorious and without end. Even now the machinations of the evil one are being hatched, and even now the Lord has plans that will cause the devil’s best efforts to fail.
His justice will reign, and all other gods will bow.
“Let all be put to shame who serve carved images, Who boast of idols. Worship Him, all you gods. Zion hears and is glad, And the daughters of Judah rejoice Because of Your judgments, O Lord. For You, Lord, are most high above all the earth; You are exalted far above all gods. You who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, And gladness for the upright in heart. Rejoice in the Lord, you righteous, And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.”
Psalms 97:7-12 NKJV
Jesus is coming, my people, and He brings all that He has promised. This storm will end, and the Son will shine again. Let us focus on the word, on prayer, fellowship, and worship, as the Lord goes about His work. Let us fill our minds with the record of His faithfulness, and let us seek holiness in the face of the many temptations that surround us.
As I said before, we have a great cloud of witnesses, those who have known HIs faithfulness. So let us live as ambassadors of the Lord and resist the evil things of this world.
“Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”
Hebrews 12:1-2 NKJV
Have a fabulous Friday! I will be praying for people today, as I got busy yesterday.
