“Now, brethren, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our gathering together to Him, we ask you, not to be soon shaken in mind or troubled, either by spirit or by word or by letter, as if from us, as though the day of Christ had come. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God. Do you not remember that when I was still with you I told you these things? And now you know what is restraining, that he may be revealed in his own time. For the mystery of lawlessness is already at work; only He who now restrains will do so until He is taken out of the way.”
‭‭II Thessalonians‬ ‭2:1-7‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Like the smell of the wind before a rainstorm, we have a sense of what is coming. The foreshadowing of lawlessness is easy to see, and its effects are abundantly clear, as our world becomes less and less inhabitable. Even though things are seemingly getting worse and worse, we still have a sense that the bottom has not fallen out. Those who look through spiritual eyes, can still sense the fingers of the Restrainer, holding back the storm.

In this quiet before the storm, we are able to work, to go and tell others of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We are on a rescue mission, going about trying to reach as manny as we can before the torturous winds of the looming storm are allowed loose on the world.

Reading in II Thessalonians chapter two this morning, I am reminded of an earlier time, of earlier followers of Jesus who faced great persecution. It was so great that they thought that the Day of the Lord had already come. There were those who sought to deceive them into thinking that they has been left behind.

Even today, there are those who think the antichrist is in power and go about worrying about taking the mark of the beast. But, he has not come, yet, and we still have time. We are beginning to see the foreshadowing of his coming, as even now many are falling away, running after other doctrines and other gods. There are self professed teachers of the word, who speak from their own flesh, passing what they have too ay off as being of God.

“Thus says the Lord of hosts: “Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They make you worthless; They speak a vision of their own heart, Not from the mouth of the Lord. They continually say to those who despise Me, ‘The Lord has said, “You shall have peace” ’; And to everyone who walks according to the dictates of his own heart, they say, ‘No evil shall come upon you.’ ””
Jeremiah 23:16-17 NKJV

They preach of prosperity, of Kingdom Now, making a better world, a Heaven on earth, even as all reality seems to be crumbling down around them. Many run after them, neglecting the true teaching of the word of God, seeking after this flesh comforting message which appeals to the will and desire of man.

There will come a time when many will fall way from the Lord, when an event occurs that cements the existence of God in Jesus Christ, and there will be no question. For some it will be the changing of missions, and their subsequent capturing away.

For others with will be onslaught of the Harlot, who seeks to devour the last of the Christians. For yet others, it will be the destruction of the Harlot at the hands of the Antichrist, as all the things that considered the abominations of this world disappear in one hour. They will view the Antichrist as hero and take his mark as willingly as donning a red ball cap.

Those who call upon the name of Jesus, who are the faithful followers of the Lord will be few in number.

In the times leading up to the revealing of the lawless one, the man of perdition, the antichrist, the bottomless pit will be opened, and all peace will be taken from the earth. In this time the Lord will give the world over to itself, and He who restrained, will restrain no more.

The fruit of the flesh will reign supreme.

“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.”
‭‭Galatians‬ ‭5:19-21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

These will the signs of the falling away, mere hints today, but will be in open display in the future. As followers of Jesus, we are charged with working while there is still time, redeeming every moment to go and tell of the what the Lord has done. We take the power of our testimonies into a sick and dying world full of people seeking a lifeline.

We must be bold!

We have little time. If one is a student of the Scriptures, you are aware of the many patterns the Lord has given those with eyes to see, and it is evident that we are nearing the end of the current phase of God’s plan. What awaits is the rest, or the seventh day, the millennium.

Brothers and sisters, let us be looking forward to Jesus’ appearing, going out and tell as many people as we can about HIs soon appearing and the salvation that can only be found in Him. Let us cling to the Lord, seeking His righteousness, hoping that we be counted worthy to be amongst the first fruits, those taken to intercede on behalf of the saints.

Let us also establish Jesus in our hearts, that we find strength to endure whatever is to come. While the Holy Spirit will no longer restrain, He will not abandon those who are His. God is with us, God is for us, God is in us!

Have a blessed Sunday! TO ALL FIRE FIGHTERS, FIRST RESPONDERS AND POLICE OFFICERS: THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE! Hard to believe it has been twenty one years since 9/11.
