Fool’s paradise

“The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity; There is none who does good. God looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. Every one of them has turned aside; They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one. Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call upon God?”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭53:1-4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Fools paradise

The world we live in has descended so fast, that if it were a rubber ball, it would bounce, rebounding to the stars. There is virtually no reference to the God of creation, the Creator of the universe. Every breath is devoted to uplifting a reality where everything just sort of happened.

As I listen, I shake my head in disgust, that so many people have chosen to put aside the knowledge of the One who made all things. Even more push aside the knowledge of the God/Man Jesus who came to take on the sins of the world.

I watched my new favorite street preacher, brother Joshua, present the Gospel on a street corner in New York City, I focused on the people who walked by. At one point a young, scattily clad woman stopped dead in her tracks, as if stupefied that someone would have the audacity to stand in the public square and proclaim Jesus. Her boyfriend grabbed her hand and dragged her way, perhaps to keep her from embarrassing herself if she made a scene.

I love Psalm fifty three, for it illustrates the state of humanity today: completely godless, doomed, and looking for answers in all the wrong places. As the world has searched in vain, it has become all the more abased, devoid of what we look for in the best of us. It is as if our better angels have been mugged and bound.

“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”
II Timothy 3:1-5 NKJV

Even though God has been rejected, humanity seeks a spirituality anyway, as they vainly seek to adopt the names and ideas of Christianity, to add some kind of credibility to their godliness. They conjure up a warm and sensitive Jesus, who loves everyone, and would never send a sinner to hell. They even deny that He went to the cross for our sins.

For these people, there is coming an intense shock, when the Lord Jesus returns to judge. Suddenly, all the things that had been jettisoned will be relevant, and even the most holy and born again among us, will enter heaven as if by fire.

Sadly, there are days when I find myself wondering if the Lord sees any that are HIs when He examines the church. So many live like the world, more concerned with the issues of the flesh, and not the holiness of God. There is coming a day when those who are ready will be caught up. It will not be a group rapture as we all like to fantasize, but the result of the Lord’s ongoing examination of the hearts of Christians.

Brothers and sisters, it is time for us to live as if we are wise knowing that there is a God. Let us not be as fools, clinging to a dying world and living as ion the Lord has no power. We are called to be people faith, walking by the power of the Holy Spirit, and living as ambassadors ambassadors of Jesus.

If we must be fools, let us be fools for Christ, demonstrating a foolishness that confounds the world.

“For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the Lord.””
I Corinthians 1:26-31 NKJV

In these perilous days, our world is upside down, as the very morality of these times does not reflect any true reality. We call good evil and evil good, and we have gone away from the the things that were commonly held, to our damnation.

“Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! Woe to those who are wise in their own eyes, And prudent in their own sight!”
Isaiah 5:20-21 NKJV

“Do not remove the ancient landmark Which your fathers have set.”
Proverbs 22:28 NKJV

We are as adrift in a stormy sea, having cut loose our Anchor, and the rocks are looming large in what was the distant shore. It is much closer now. Those who of us who know the Lifeguard, have no fear, and we are about trying to convince the others of the impending danger.

Let us be faithful as we go and tell, never growing weary, even as we are mocked and rejected. They are not rejecting us, but God. They are stranded in a fool’s paradise.

Have a Holy Lord’s Day!

  1. Reminds me of the book “A Confederacy of Dunces. “It was originally written in 1980 by Toole. and was one of the definitive depictions of our post Christian culture, as set in French Quarter Louisiana.

In someways, I am thankful for The darkened mindset of our culture. It allows the light of Christ to shine so much more brightly. Thank you for shining the Lord slight brightly my friend, and thank you for your prayers!
