Desires of the heart

“Do not fret because of evildoers, Nor be envious of the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, And wither as the green herb. Trust in the Lord, and do good; Dwell in the land, and feed on His faithfulness. Delight yourself also in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the Lord, Trust also in Him, And He shall bring it to pass.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭37:1-5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Desires of the heart

The world is in the brain washing business. It has amassed a vast array of weapons and tools to capture the human mind and heart. It spends vast resources on determining for you what you ought to want and desire. It then floods you with feelings of hopelessness when you are unable to have the things the the world has told you are the earmarks of a good life.

The whole world is heading into an economic storm where many people are going to lose whatever foot hold they may have hoped to have in climbing ups to the American dream. For many, even the next meal will be in doubt.

As the storm winds begin to blow, there will be so many things that are revealed, as the gap between the rich and the poor become far more wide and all the more evident. The people at the top will shout their wealth, and increasing their disregard for those who have nothing.

Reading Psalm thirty seven reminded me of the tendency of those who’ve called upon the name of the Lord, to look at the evil doors and marvel at their apparent success. In the darkest moments, one can find ones self doubting God, for we do not know what the outcome of the wicked will be.

They will be cut down like grass.

It is on the believer to remain faithful to God. I tell you the truth, I was one who looked upon the wealth and apparent blessings of others with a sense of amazement. Some of these people were so wicked and so horrible that I wondered aloud as to whether the Lord was even aware.

“O Lord, how long shall I cry, And You will not hear? Even cry out to You, “Violence!” And You will not save. Why do You show me iniquity, And cause me to see trouble? For plundering and violence are before me; There is strife, and contention arises. Therefore the law is powerless, And justice never goes forth. For the wicked surround the righteous; Therefore perverse judgment proceeds.”
Habakkuk 1:2-4 NKJV

As the Lord began to work in me, a great transformation began to occur, as the Lord began to change my perspective from the here and now, to the eternal. The great salvation that I had received through Jesus Christ, had begun to shine brightly in my life, and the things that I had held dear, were swept away by the increasing glory of God.

The tangible was replaced by the spiritual, and the passing joy of temporal things, was surpassed by the joy of knowing Jesus and one day being where He is.

Brothers and sisters, let us be encouraged in knowing that the wicked will be cut down, that those who have filled the lives of the humble with injustice, will receive what they are due. But, even as we rejoice in the coming of Jesus to judge the lawless, let us be steadfast in going out to tell people about Jesus.

There are two great pictures coming in the future. One of judgement and one of glory. Our job is to build the latter and decrease the former.

“Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books.”
Revelation 20:11-12 NKJV

“And I heard, as it were, the voice of a great multitude, as the sound of many waters and as the sound of mighty thunderings, saying, “Alleluia! For the Lord God Omnipotent reigns! Let us be glad and rejoice and give Him glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and His wife has made herself ready.” And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints. Then he said to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!’ ” And he said to me, “These are the true sayings of God.””
Revelation 19:6-9 NKJV

It is upon us to rejoice in what we have in Jesus and recognize that the blessings of the Lord are great, and will be greater still once we have been glorified. Let us delight ourselves in the Lord. I can tell you that the Lord has given me a far greater delight in Him, as every aspect of my spiritual life has been “lit”.

I am finding it harder and harder to remain quiet in church, and tears of joy flood me daily, and the word of God is alive for me, leaping off the pages and into my heart. There are days when I almost expect the room where I pray to be filled physically with His glory. He is about to move upon this world.

Let us put aside the desires of this world, and let our hearts desire for the things of God. Let us look upon the evil doers with pity and not envy , having a greater concern for their souls. Let us pray for their salvation.

May our minds be transformed that by the washing of the word, that we be able to resist the brainwashing of this sick and dying world.
