Trials to come

“I am forgotten like a dead man, out of mind; I am like a broken vessel. For I hear the slander of many; Fear is on every side; While they take counsel together against me, They scheme to take away my life. But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.” My times are in Your hand; Deliver me from the hand of my enemies, And from those who persecute me.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭31:12-15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Trials to come

I often think the Lord has prepared me specifically for these times that are upon us. Through my life, I have been identified as peculiar, odd, and very much outside the norms that people found comfortable. Because of that, I have felt the sting one feels when they are different, not like the others. It was not until I became a Christian, that I finally felt comfort.

Reading Psalm thirty one this morning, I received a much need reminder of whose I am in the face of great trouble. We are Christians. When I say Christian, I am not referring to any church membership or denominational affiliation, but our own personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

In our faith walk, we have been set apart. In my own particular journey, I have often been condemned for being a little too close to the Lord, charged with being “out of balance”, or too heavenly minded to be of any earthly good.

We will find as a group, that these days we are entering into will be particularly difficult for us, for those who call themselves followers of Jesus, will be faced with a choice: be Christians in a Christ hating world, or be like the world and continue following the same rules.

I myself am singleminded, devoted to following the Lord. I have no time for politicians, for political parties, social justice movements, or anything else that is reflective of the fleeting desires of humanity. I have found myself attacked from all sides for my devotion, finding support only in Jesus.

“The Lord is for me among those who help me; Therefore I shall see my desire on those who hate me. It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in princes.”
Psalms 118:7-9 NKJV

For anyone who is not following along with the world, trials are coming. I watched videos yesterday of various street preachers bringing the Gospel to the world. The world is losing its willingness to hear and is using whatever it can to stop the message from being preached.

“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables.”
‭‭II Timothy‬ ‭4:3-4‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In this country, preachers have been arrested as officials have twisted local laws to make what is a right, unlawful. In many places Christians are being killed for speaking the name of Jesus.

Brothers and sisters, there will be days when we feel as if we are surrounded by the enemy and that we have no recourse. In this time, we must remember that we have the Lord. Going back to Psalm thirty one, let us rejoice that the Lord holds our lives in His hand. Because of Jesus, we know that we have a future and a hope.

Even as we face great tribulation, we can have the confidence that the Lord is working out His plan and our ultimate salvation. As we face the troubles that will most certainly come, may we be faithful to endure, leaning on the Lord. He has promised great things for those who endure.

“Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life. “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.” ’”
Revelation 2:10-11 NKJV

The times that we are living in are overwhelmingly fluid and change is coming hard and fast. Let us remember that the Lord we serve was the same, is the same, and will be the same, regardless of what comes.

“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8 NKJV

Knowing that our God is faithful, let us endeavor to go and tell to spread the Gospel, even if doing so brings the wrath of man. There is a greater wrath coming, which is that of God, and it is upon us to spread the message of the Good News, in which is the only escape.

Have a Fabulous Friday!

  1. Agreed Bernie. When I became a Christian, that was the first time I felt actual comfort to. Before that, I had always felt myself an outsider in any given situation. Now, I fight to be single-minded, as well. Praise the Lord for his gospel, and something so liberating, that it is worthy to be praised and worshiped!

1 Timothy 4:15-16 (ESV) 15 Practice these things, immerse yourself in them, so that all may see your progress. 16 Keep a close watch on yourself and on the teaching. Persist in this, for by so doing you will save both yourself and your hearers.
