Foolishness

“For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence. But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption—”
‭‭I Corinthians‬ ‭1:26-30‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Foolishness

Yesterday, feeling a bit brave, I watched Matt Walsh’s documentary
“What is a woman?” I had heard much about it, but nothing could prepare me for the level of foolishness exhibited by so many so called “experts”. I was amazed how people, supposedly learned in their fields, willfully put aside science and common knowledge in their desire to deny God.

As if to add further illustration of the foolishness of humanity, I awoke to a story on the BBC about the Hadrian Collider and their discovery of what they call the God Particle. I listened as godless scientists expounded on their doubts of a creator, based on the mere glimpse of what may have gone into creation. They thought that because they had found a little bit of the evidence of creation, they knew it all.

I harkened back to my days playing with water colors, trying to replicate what I was seeing before my God created eyes. Try as I might, I could not get the dozen or so colors in my little palette to replicate the trillions of colors gloriously rendered by God.

“O Lord, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet,”
Psalms 8:1-6 NKJV

Humanity tries vainly to do what it thinks God is doing, as it pursues all the knowledge of the world. It is a pursuit that goes back to the garden of Eden, when the serpent of old deceived Eve, and Adam disobeyed God. As I read I Corinthians chapter one, I was reminded of the economy of God.

The world cannot fathom that God is truly intimate with His creation and is indeed concerned with every aspect of the lives of people. They depict God as distant and unconcerned, certainly not being so much so that He would come to earth to die for our sins.

When I was in the world, not yet knowing Jesus, I was like all those others, seeking knowledge, desiring to unlock the secrets of how all came to be. It was not until the Lord brought me to the end of myself, picked me up from the bottom of my world, and saved me, that I began to understand.

I also realized how foolish I was, and how majestic the Creator of the Universe is. What I had considered mere superstition, had rocked my world and I would never be the same. The eternal unseen had invaded the mortal reality of my life, and began to change me from within. With that came the presence of the Holy Spirit, who guided me into the word of God.

This world is grasping for answers, and in its grasping, it is adrift, floating farther and farther from what it desires most. Having no anchor, it spins and drifts faster, having no sense of bearing. Like a drowning man, the world strikes out any one who may try and help. Like a skilled lifeguard, knocking the drowning unconscious, the Lord Jesus is coming soon to bring order into chaos.

Brothers and sisters we have been given the life defining message of the Gospel, which appears foolish to the wise, but which has the power to bring understanding. I am amazed each day by what the Lord has revealed to me in HIs word, and how really simple is our world.

As I watched the aforementioned movie, I was increasingly troubled. Finally, in the end, Matt Walsh completed his quest to know what a woman is, by asking the woman he had married and who had delivered his kids. “What is a woman? “ She paused, perplexed. “An adult human female…who needs some help opening this… She handed Matt a jar to open. I broke down and wept with joy.

We are living in a time when the simple truth is disregarded in favor of the complex and the obfuscated. The refusal to accept the simple, is driven by a desire to doubt the word of God, an effort that the evil one has sought to pull off since the beginning. As a result, the world we live in is devolving into chaos and life that was once viewed as precious, is now up for grabs.

We are all about blaming things for the problems, and not going to the root of the matter. Humanity has rejected its creator.

Let us lean on the word of God and be faithful to proclaim its truths. Let us seek to liberate one mind and heart at a time as we lead people to Jesus.

Have a blessed Sunday!

  1. So true on the watercolors, so true on God’s incredible and unfailing power. I admire you, that you had the intestinal fortitude to watch that whole documentary. It’s hard to listen to that many lies.
