The final mile

“Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings, From the wicked who oppress me, From my deadly enemies who surround me. They have closed up their fat hearts; With their mouths they speak proudly. They have now surrounded us in our steps; They have set their eyes, crouching down to the earth, As a lion is eager to tear his prey, And like a young lion lurking in secret places. Arise, O Lord, Confront him, cast him down; Deliver my life from the wicked with Your sword, With Your hand from men, O Lord, From men of the world who have their portion in this life, And whose belly You fill with Your hidden treasure. They are satisfied with children, And leave the rest of their possession for their babes. As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭17:8-15‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

The final mile

The journey from the cross to now has been long and winding, with many steps for followers of Jesus throughout the centuries. Many of those steps have been hampered by vicious attacks by the earth dwellers, those who have not called upon the name of the Lord Jesus for salvation. Those who have been faithful have been battered and bruised, and some have fallen by the wayside, but there has always been a remnant that has pressed on.

Reading Psalm seventeen, was a bit of refreshment, by way of reminder that the born again Christian has an ultimate station that will come to pass. Whereas those in the world seek to leave an inheritance to their children, we are the ones who receive a great inheritance, and a great reward, as we will see the face of Jesus is righteousness, and one day will be glorified and and where He is.

“The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.”
Romans 8:16-17 NKJV

“Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure.”
I John 3:2-3 NKJV

Instead of blood or DNA, our inheritance is proven by the presence of the Holy Spirit. He bears witness that we are the Lord’s. Because of that, we can have confidence and endure in this world, that has become all the more hostile to the follower of Christ with each passing day.

Let us be ever mindful that we are the apple of the Lord’s eye, as He is always looking at us, watching us, and looking ahead for hazards that may come. In light of the Lord’s constant attention, let us be mindful of how we walk, how we think, and how we treat those in the household of faith.

Let us also be mindful that we are ambassadors of Jesus, as we go and interact with the world. The world is filled with people who have been kicked around, and are hurting and angry. May we be like an air of refreshing when we meet them, bringing the hope filled message of the Gospel.

I have found that even something so basic as a smile can make all the difference.

Let us also behave like Christians, as the earth dwellers know that we are different from them and they are very aware of how we should act. May we present as heaven bound, showing the love of God.

Brothers and sisters, we are in the final mile, as the Lord is showing us right before our faces, that time is short. In that final mile, we will encounter temptations and struggles that test us, and vex us, but we must press on. Every moment must be redeemed, for the times are terrible.

“See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is. And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God.”
Ephesians 5:15-21 NKJV

Pray for those in opposition, whether they be in or out of the church, seek the Lord daily in His word, and ask Him to search you, rooting out the sins that can inhibit your effectiveness in these latter days.

“Lord, who may abide in Your tabernacle? Who may dwell in Your holy hill? He who walks uprightly, And works righteousness, And speaks the truth in his heart; He who does not backbite with his tongue, Nor does evil to his neighbor, Nor does he take up a reproach against his friend;”
Psalms 15:1-3 NKJV

  1. We have been battered a little, but nothing compared to our Lord Jesus. Such a faithful Savior, such a faithful Lord!

Thanks so much for your prayers last week Bernie! The Lord used me to lead our group of six through the boundary waters of northeastern Minnesota with unity, peace, and a clear focus on the Lord through the book of James. I deeply deeply appreciate your prayers my friend. Thank you for your smile, as well. God’s peace to you.
