“Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Philippians 2:5-11 NKJV
There will be great temptation for the follower of Jesus to take offense at the reviling that is to come. There will be many opportunities when those who call themselves Christians will be attacked, as they seek to stand on the truth of the Scriptures.
I speak from experience. There are but a few people who know me, really know me, for I have made it a habit to keep my world small. Though I give information freely, what is offered does not often fit the agendas of those who have such views of me, and inevitably there are lies and falsehoods that are like tasty morsels to be swallowed down.
As I have grown in the faith, I have learned to remember that my Savior Jesus endured many lies and charges. He offered no defenses, and nothing kept Him from completing His mission on earth. He was a God/Man of no reputation, deserving of worship, but laying all that aside that He would be the Savior of the world.
“He is despised and rejected by men, A Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised, and we did not esteem Him.”
Isaiah 53:3 NKJV
Reading Philippians chapter two caused me to look back at the cross, to consider the One who died to set us free. Because He died for us, paying for our sins, we are His. Being His, we have and will endure the same struggles. We will be in the eyes of the world, people of no reputation. We will be reviled for our faithfulness to the word of God.
Even today, the Lord is revealing the true hearts of those who have professed faith in Jesus, as issues like abortion and LGBTQ rights heating emotions to the boiling point. We are entering the time of the great falling away, when people of professed faith, must make a choice between the Lord and world.
The last few weeks have been a time of great revelation for me, as I have watched in horror so many people I thought to be brothers and sisters in Christ, reject the tenants of the Scriptures. As we get closer to the times that are to come, I am sure that the horrors will be more pronounced and frequent.
Brothers and sisters, let us take on the. Ind of Christ, having no reputation. May we be bondservants of Jesus, serving Him relentlessly, even as the world rejects us. Our Lord laid aside His glory and took on human flesh, that He lead us and make away for us. When we behold Him next, we will not see Him as He was, but how He became. The marks of the payment of our sins will still be seen on Jesus.
Let us be mindful, that when all these storms have passed, Jesus will be exalted, and every knee will truly confess that Jesus Christ is Lord. Let us remember the cross in our daily lives, being mindful of all that He has done for us. Let us remember that He died for our sins, but let us be more mindful of His resurrection.
“Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained. Therefore I endure all things for the sake of the elect, that they also may obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. This is a faithful saying: For if we died with Him, We shall also live with Him. If we endure, We shall also reign with Him. If we deny Him, He also will deny us. If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.”
II Timothy 2:8-13 NKJV
Our eternal futures are tied to His, and as Jesus will reign, so will we. Let us hold on, enduring the shame, the reviling, and the hate. This week could be a troubling one, as the Roe V Wade decision could come down soon.
Our world, our country is about to enter a summer like no other, as rage will likely fill the streets. Let us be lights in the coming darkness, bent on completing the mission Lord has given us. The world needs to hear the message of the One who took on humility, that those bound for hell could be saved.
