Future

“Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! While I live I will praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish. Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the Lord his God, Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever, Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The Lord gives freedom to the prisoners. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; The Lord raises those who are bowed down; The Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow; But the way of the wicked He turns upside down. The Lord shall reign forever— Your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord!”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭146:1-10‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Future

Spencer Smith says: “When things are looking really bad, things are looking really good. “ Well, things are looking really bad. We are living in a broken world, with no real hope for the future. All we are left with are tried and untrue methods that have failed time and time again. If one were to focus only on what is in the here and now, with no thought of the supernatural and eternal workings of God, sadness and fear would dominate and there would be no hope.

As followers of Jesus, we are focused on eternal things, on a future where the Lord will reign. As I read through Psalm one hundred forty six, I found myself excited at the thought of living in a time when Jesus is King, and all creation rejoices of the coming of its Lord.

In these pressing times, it is in Jesus that we have our hope, our opportunity to praise the Lord. We look forward in faith, past all that is toward what will be.

“Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul! While I live I will praise the Lord; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish.”
Psalms 146:1-4 NKJV

The things that God has done stand the test of time, and all His plans will be fulfilled. We have become accustomed to following leaders and flesh and blood, faulty people, who live, who die, taking their goals and plans with them. The crisis of the moment is a great illustration, as yet another tragedy comes, the usual political rallying points will being made, and days from now, we will settle back into the corporate stupor we call normal.

I am looking forward to that glorious future when there will be no more need for weapons, no more need for young men to feel hopeless, no more need for children to feel fearful. The One who made us, died to save us, Who is coming again, will reside with us. Emmanuel: God with us.

In the meantime, I wait, and pray for that day. I also go and tell of such are great future. I tell you the truth, there are many people who do not know the Lord, whose hearts are open now. They have seen the efforts of sinful man and the lack of answers. They have heard the same rhetoric over and over again, and have deemed it all insanity.

Brothers and sisters, we have a view of the future given us by the Bible. It has stood the test of time, and where it was true before, it will be true through to the end. In these days of struggle and despair, let us pore through it, being reminded of the goodness and faithfulness of the Lord.

“Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the Lord his God, Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever, Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The Lord gives freedom to the prisoners. The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; The Lord raises those who are bowed down; The Lord loves the righteous. The Lord watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow; But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.”
Psalms 146:5-9 NKJV

Let us fix our spiritual eyes on that future where all of the ills of these present times will be but memories, and there is no more need, and no more want. It will be a time when there will be no more bullying, no more injustice. Only the peace and provision of the Lord.

All of creation will be recovered, no droughts, no tornados, no climate change, no starvation. The very leaves of the trees will bring healing to the nations and the curse that has humbled the earth will be no more.

“And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.”
Revelation 22:1-5 NKJV

Oh, my people, let us rejoice over such a great future, and let us be energized to go and do the work that Jesus saved us to do. Jesus is coming soon!

“Then he said to me, “These words are faithful and true.” And the Lord God of the holy prophets sent His angel to show His servants the things which must shortly take place. “Behold, I am coming quickly! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy of this book.””
Revelation 22:6-7 NKJV
