““If it had not been the Lord who was on our side,” Let Israel now say— “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side, When men rose up against us, Then they would have swallowed us alive, When their wrath was kindled against us; Then the waters would have overwhelmed us, The stream would have gone over our soul; Then the swollen waters Would have gone over our soul.” Blessed be the Lord, Who has not given us as prey to their teeth. Our soul has escaped as a bird from the snare of the fowlers; The snare is broken, and we have escaped. Our help is in the name of the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.”
Psalms 124:1-8 NKJV
I have found that the joy of the Lord is sweetest in the looking back, in the remembering all the times that Faithful God has intervened on the behalf of His adopted son, a follower of Jesus. I am doing a lot of that lately, as the world we inhabit now, is giving way to what its to come.
When I look back at all the Lord has delivered me through, I am in awe, for I know that I could not have gotten through even a day of it with our Him. As I read Psalm one hundred twenty four, I was reminded of the journey I have had with my Lord. My life is full of statements, wondering what life would have been like had Jesus not been on my side.
As followers of Jesus, the corporate body of Christ is at a moment of crisis, as the world we live in has been flipped upside down, and what was evil is now good, and what was good is now evil. Killing is now life saving, ending of a life is considered healthcare, and women are not the only ones who can become pregnant.
The earth dwellers have become self consumed, and have come to a point that they have denied God. The times have become perilous, having no grounding in reason. Even the natural laws have been ignored.
“But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!”
II Timothy 3:1-5 NKJV
Feelings dominate the world we live in, and experiences trump truth, giving away to a vast myriad of individual truths that run counter to each other, creating chaos. The public square has become filled with a cacophony of opposing voices, mere noise having no sense at all.
But do not despair.
There will come a day when those who endure will be like the writer of the Psalm, wondering in retrospect what would have happened if they did not know the Lord. We will look back at the many times the Lord has delivered us from the enemy, and look back through glorified minds to the ultimate deliverance as we stand in the presence of God.
We will remember the faithfulness of our God, of His Son Jesus who came back for us as He promised. The grand retrospective of these times will not be a recounting of the coming horror, but a recounting of God’s complete victory over the devil.
Brothers and sisters, let us be focused forward on the coming glorious times, knowing that whatever we may endure is but a bump on the road to glory.
Pray for those who have been deceived by the evil one, who have been blinded from the truth. Pray that the Lord provide each one a truth teller, a follower of Jesus who can share the Gospel.
Pray that you yourself be prepared if you should find yourself having that opportunity. Pray that the Lord show love through your words, and that He give you the gumption to share your own retrospective of what the Lord has done. The Lord may send one who has the same past as you, and you will be able to tell them of the point of departure, when the Lord swept you from the path bound toward hell, and put you on the path to Heaven.
Each person we see as the enemy, is a soul the Lord can save. Let us consider this as we go and tell, as we go and share the Gospel with those in opposition. The devil desires that we destroy them, that we seal them for damnation. But Jesus has called us to share with them, to love them and tell them about Him, and what He did for them.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”
Ephesians 6:10-13 NKJV
Let us brace ourselves with the word of God, the presence of the Holy Spirit, and may we be in constant contact with the Lord through prayer. We have the advantage of knowing the great outcome of all these things, for the Lord has given us His retrospective in the word of God.
Because of Jesus, we will one day look back on these times and we will rejoice in the Lord’s deliverance, the same Lord who made the heaven and the earth.
Deep deep love
Oh the deep, deep love of Jesus
Vast, unmeasured, boundless, free
Rolling as a mighty ocean
In its fullness over me
Underneath me, all around me
Is the current of Your love
Leading onward, leading homeward
To Your glorious rest above
Oh the deep, deep love
All I need and trust
Is the deep, deep love of Jesus
