“No weapon formed against you shall prosper, And every tongue which rises against you in judgment You shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, And their righteousness is from Me,” Says the Lord.”
Isaiah 54:17 NKJV
I had gotten up to go to the bathroom as is common to us older folks. As I lay back down, there was report of a leak of a draft of the purported decision the Supreme Court of the United States is slated to be handed down in July. According to the report, the ruling on abortion known as Roe v. Wade would be overturned barring any change.
As I lay there, my feelings were neutral, as I began to consider all the of study I had been doing of all the happenings in the world, and how they will play into end time events. I knew of the coming purge of Christians, the wholesale slaughter of anyone who even seemed to be a follower of Jesus.
I remember wondering what would be the trigger, what event would so much rancor that masses of earth dwellers would demand the deaths of citizens of Heaven.
I think the issue will be abortion. A sense of dread filled me, for I have been given an understanding of the darkness of humanity, for I was once one who walked in the deepest darkness. There will be blood.
Because of Jesus, we are hated by a sin loving world that despises anyone who desires to take away their pleasure. We are hated for we discern what is right from God’s word, and eschew what is right according to the world.
““If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also. But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.”
John 15:18-21 NKJV
In the face of such a great hatred, and the potential for a long hot summer, the Lord gave me an answer that I could only find in His word.
Right on cue, God provided His answer to me in the moment of my need. As I read the passage in Isaiah fifty four, I was reminded that it is the Lord that holds the life of the followers of Jesus.
A couple weeks ago, I wrote of the journey of Jesus to the cross, how I thought He must have felt as He pressed on each day, knowing what was to come at the end.
Just as Jesus walked His walk through Holy Week, we are walking into what we call the end times. Each coming day will be filled with trepidation and dread, as we hear all the angry voices raised against us. Those in the media will make every effort to put targets on our backs.
We have the promise of Jesus, the One who saved us, commissioned us and called us to this time.
“Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
Revelation 2:10 NKJV
I am in awe at how fast things are happening, to the degree that I feel like I am seeing a giant spherical puzzle with millions of pieces, assembling supernaturally right before my eyes.
But even in the midst of all that will come, we will still be on mission, commissioned by the Lord to spread the Gospel of Christ. The great temptation will be to fight back, to rally against those who oppose us, that we be not pushed around.
We must remember, however, that this world is still controlled by the devil and in this reality we cannot win the battles for the culture. Our best weapon is the Gospel for it has the power to save the soul and transform the heart.
The devil’s goal is to take us off task, to distract us from the work that Jesus has set before us. There will be many who choose this time to focus on defending the decision, should it stand, and then go after other culture war targets. This is not our calling.
The Lord is working His divine plan according to His timetable and things are moving quickly.
I suspect that over the coming days, we will see the events of these end times more clearly and we will have a more accurate sense of what we ought to do. Through it all, we must cling to the word of God, for it is our guide book in these times.
Let us be faithful to pray for our leaders, especially those on the state and local level. It is in these realms that many battles will be fought. Pray also for our churches, for our faith leaders, and for each other. I suspect that there will be attacks on churches and leaders this summer and there will great need for vigilance.
Let us remember that the Lord has given us great weapons in this time of war. Let us use them, not only for defense, but to collapse the gates of hell, rescuing those who now seem bound.
“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—”
Ephesians 6:13-18 NKJV
