“It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in princes.”
Psalms 118:8-9 NKJV
Trust
In the quiet of this morning, I am still enjoying the echoes of a blessed Resurrection Sunday, still rejoicing that the Lord Jesus who was laid in the tomb was not there, and even more joyful that He is at the right hand of the Father.
I am thankful for the salvation I have through Jesus, for the presence of the Holy Spirit, the power of God, and for His word that He has left for me. I am thankful most of all for the trust I know I can have in Jesus, who walked this earth, faced every struggle I can’t begin to imagine, and remained sinless.
When I consider the word of God, and the impact that He has had on my life, I can’t help but compare my Leader in heaven to the earth bound leaders we have chosen for ourselves.
I think back to the children of Israel and their desire for a king to rule over them, and all the warnings they were given by Samuel. Still they persisted.
“But the thing displeased Samuel when they said, “Give us a king to judge us.” So Samuel prayed to the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, “Heed the voice of the people in all that they say to you; for they have not rejected you, but they have rejected Me, that I should not reign over them. According to all the works which they have done since the day that I brought them up out of Egypt, even to this day—with which they have forsaken Me and served other gods—so they are doing to you also.”
I Samuel 8:6-8 NKJV
Humanity has repeated the sin over and over again, and has had ever more grim outcomes, as the evil has prevailed. I think of the midpoint of the Bible, the Scripture verses that are at the very center of all the wisdom of God.
“It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in princes.”
Psalms 118:8-9 NKJV
One would think that we could have heeded the message of the Lord by now, that we would have learned from the past, and from the myriad of examples set forth in the word of God, but alas, we have not.
As I sit here, I am reminded of all that is happening in our world, and all will happen in the coming months. In the many wars, rumors of wars, spreading pestilence, famine, and turmoil, many will seek the guidance of earth bound leaders, expecting that so how they will bring correction. Through it all, they will fall back on the time honored political traditions hoping that what did not work before, will now work. Insanity!
God is showing us that only He has the answer.
Brothers and sisters, it is time for us to seek the Lord. Let us trust in the Lord, and lay aside the leaders who have not accomplished anything. In my sixty one years, I have seen the pendulum of politics swing back and forth, as great moves of the right have been erased by the left, and great moves of the left have been erased by the right.
Through it all the rich get richer, the poor poorer, and the innocent are slain.
The Lord is coming again, and He will bring true justice, that rends the establishment asunder. None of those we have chosen to be our kings will stand.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV
Let us be be directed in heart and mind by the Lord in these times, and let us be faithful to fulfill the ministry the Lord has given us.

Trusting trusting, only trusting…!!! Thank you Bernie. Will you please pray for my mom and stepdad? Yesterday at Easter, we discovered a MacArthur commentary on mom‘s bookshelf, and pulled it out. We had given it to her in 2007, and forgot about it. We told her about the incredible man of God, and his staff who wrote the book. She sent me a text this morning saying she read it last night, and she read it again this morning. Will you please pray that her and my stepdad will put their faith in Christ alone? Thank you brother
