“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.””
‭‭John‬ ‭3:16-21‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Reading in John this morning, I encountered the bedrock of the Gospel, the greatest truth of what God desires. The whole bible builds up to the this one point:

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.”
John 3:16 NKJV

The Harvest is beginning. I read this morning that the persecution of Christians is nearing “genocidal levels” as more and more followers of Jesus are being killed for their beliefs. These horrendous things are happening in places where Christianity is the minority religion, where naming the Name of Jesus is an executable offense.

Soon they will be happening in the places where the faith in Jesus has grown cold.

These saints, in far off lands, blood bought and converted, are willing to lay it all down to spread the Gospel. They are people who have seen the Light, the true light of Jesus and have answered the call. They have believed John three sixteen, and sought the Lord.

Through their willing sacrifices, they have demonstrated the power of the Gospel, the death that brought life and resurrection.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain.”
John 12:24 NKJV

Many are going to the grave, men and women of faith, falling as seeds of grain, and from their deaths a great crop is rising, as greater numbers are coming to Christ. These fields are watered by the blood of the martyrs, and warmed by the Light of the Son.

The world does not like that light, for it likes the darkness, where the sin is hidden. Sadly, our world has so flipped and devolved, that even those dark and most wretched things of which humans are capable, are being done in the light of day.

The values of the world have also flipped, as there is applause where there used to be condemnation. Many choose to not believe, being deceived into thinking that social acceptance is all that matters, and not the sovereign will of God. They are still condemned, for they do not believe in Jesus.

““He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”
John 3:18 NKJV

Because of that condemnation, there is an effort on the part of those who do not believe to snuff out the light. But those who have call upon Jesus, know that the light is eternal, and that the Lord cannot be defeated and His mission will be accomplished. They also know that there is nothing that can separate them from the love of God.

“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?”
Romans 8:31 NKJV

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:37-39 NKJV

Brothers and sisters, let us be light in this darkening world. The Lord has armed us with His word and has given us HIs Holy Spirit. May we be people willing to go to our deaths if that is what is needed to spread the message of John three sixteen. Up to now, we in America have known relative peace, but I am afraid that all of that is going to change very soon, and we too will know the rage of the unredeemed.

Even in the face of such opposition, we will still be commissioned to bring the Good News, for it is the message that saves.

You might be one reading this and you have not yet come to believe. It is no accident that you have read thus far. The God that saves is calling you, and He desires to save you. You might feel like no one would forgive all that you have done, but, my friend, Jesus saves sinners like you, and like me.

All of us who have called upon the name of the Lord come to Him by His grace. We are saved by Him, not ourselves.

“For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”
Ephesians 2:8-9 NKJV

  1. May we, as dead seeds ourselves, follow the martyrs example. Thanks so much Bernie!

Galatians 2:20 (ESV) I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

  2. …’the fields are watered by the blood of the martyrs’…so sad that is happening more and more today. May God grant us the courage to be so bold for the gospel…should we find ourselves at that point. The reward will be great, unspeakable…for those who stay the course, and finish the race strong. Your words are filled with wisdom. Blessings, Shelly
