“So the Lord gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it. The Lord gave them rest all around, according to all that He had sworn to their fathers. And not a man of all their enemies stood against them; the Lord delivered all their enemies into their hand. Not a word failed of any good thing which the Lord had spoken to the house of Israel. All came to pass.”
Joshua 21:43-45 NKJV
All came to pass
It seems like no one keeps their promises these days, as word is given, oaths sworn and then forgotten. All of it has led to an uneasy sense that little matters and nothing these days can be counted upon. It is the times when I find myself most cynical, that I remember the faithfulness of the Lord.
Every promise the Lord as made to me has ultimately held true, and when there has been a delay, it is usually because of my disobedience, for I have chosen to follow my own way, and not surrender to the will of God.
As I read through Joshua chapter twenty one, I was reminded of that perfect faithfulness of the Lord as it is written that “all came to pass”, everything that had been promised had been done for the children of Israel.
The children of Israel are our forerunners, the type and shadow for we, the spiritual children of God. They were commissioned to fight through the enemies and capture the promised land, the place where there is milk and honey and much fruit, hanging big from the vine.
We, who are the followers of Jesus, face many enemies, as we fight through our lives of faith, battling all the temptations of the evil one, laying aside the sins that have so corrupted every part of us, from our speech to our actions, to make our place for ourselves in the rest of God. We receive the prize of the pure milk of the word, and our fruit, every bit as ample, is the fruit of the Spirit which puts us at peace.
“Therefore, laying aside all malice, all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and all evil speaking, as newborn babes, desire the pure milk of the word, that you may grow thereby, if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is gracious.”
I Peter 2:1-3 NKJV
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law. And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
Galatians 5:22-25 NKJV
The battle for the Christian is twofold, as we fight corporately and individually. Those who call upon the name of the Lord, the biblical church of the born again, have been in a battle for nearly two thousand years, and the end is coming soon. Because we know that the Lord is faithful, we know that all will come to pass. He has given us His word.
As with the children of Israel, all will come to pass and all will be accomplished according to HIs promise. The Church of the first born from the dead, will stand triumphant, ruling and reigning with Christ.
““And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.””
Revelation 22:12-13 NKJV
Each one of us is in our own battle, fought day by day, decision by decision, as we go into an increasingly dark world to live as ambassadors of Jesus. Unlike the children of Israel, we bring the life giving message of the Gospel, killing the enemy of sin, but reclaiming the souls of those held captive.
We come with an array of spiritual weapons and defenses, that if employed make us impregnable. We have God with us, just as Israel did, and we have God in us, a constant guide, giving us the power to resist the devil and all the temptations.
As we go forward, we must never compromise, never yield to those temptations, as the devil is moving most violently, for he knows that he has but little time.
Our victory will be complete corporately, but it is on us to bring complete victory in each of our lives, as there is great reward in eternity to come.
“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—”
Ephesians 6:12-18 NKJV
Brothers and sisters, all will come to pass, just as the Lord has promised. Let us go forth in holiness and obedience, seeking the Lord daily, employing the tools He has given us, that we may slay sin and lead souls to Jesus.
Have a fabulous Friday, my people!
