Be exalted

“Be merciful to me, O God, be merciful to me! For my soul trusts in You; And in the shadow of Your wings I will make my refuge, Until these calamities have passed by. I will cry out to God Most High, To God who performs all things for me. He shall send from heaven and save me; He reproaches the one who would swallow me up.
Selah God shall send forth His mercy and His truth. My soul is among lions; I lie among the sons of men Who are set on fire, Whose teeth are spears and arrows, And their tongue a sharp sword. Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth. They have prepared a net for my steps; My soul is bowed down; They have dug a pit before me; Into the midst of it they themselves have fallen. Selah”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭57:1-6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Be exalted

Many of us are feeling embattled in these tumultuous days, where conflict seems to be the theme of the day. I am praying for many who are dealing with many stresses, whether they be at work, in life, in the home, or dealing with a severe, or life threatening illness. Many are calling out, seeking God for mercy.

I have found that the bible is the spiritual tool box for the follower of Jesus. It has it all, from ways to be healthy, ways to get along with others, and constant reminders of the faithfulness and omniscience of God. In my own life, rife with trials, I have gone to it regularly, and found an endless supply of wisdom and comfort.

This morning I read Psalm fifty seven, a psalm of David, written in a time when he was being pursued by Saul. From the darkness of a cave, possibly Adullam, David is calling out to the Lord. In that moment of pressure and doubt, he continued to have confidence in his God, and exalted Him.

“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭57:5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Those of us in these modern times, are not hiding in caves, at least not yet, but we face the same struggles, as we are being pursued by the evil one, who is seeking to destroy us. One can feel forsaken and forgotten in the midst of trial, as if sitting in a dark, damp cave bereft of the attention of Almighty God.

At times the enemies appear to multiply, mounting up against us. It is in those times that we must remember that God is for us.

“They gather together, They hide, they mark my steps, When they lie in wait for my life. Shall they escape by iniquity? In anger cast down the peoples, O God! You number my wanderings; Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book? When I cry out to You, Then my enemies will turn back; This I know, because God is for me.”
Psalms 56:6-9 NKJV

Brothers and sisters, God is for you! He cares about your troubles, and He indeed keeps your tears in a bottle, numbering every one, and one day, He will wipe away them all.

“And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.””
Revelation 21:3-4 NKJV

In the meantime, let us dig deep into the Scriptures, looking for examples of God’s faithfulness. Everything that we face has been faced by others, every obstacle imaginable has been swept aside by the Lord. Even the destiny of the born again believer of Jesus is assured, as He made away for us to get to be where He is, by paying our sin debt on the cross.

Let us also pray for each other, as many are struggling. I have found that my own trials are made more tolerable, by lifting others to God. When I intercede, I am taken out of my own suffering, and have a change of perspective that is God aimed, and Holy Spirit guided.

In the coming days, weeks, months, and perhaps years, those who call upon the name of Jesus will experience greater trouble. I say greater, because our brothers and sisters around the world, are even now facing great tribulation.

“Do not fear any of those things which you are about to suffer. Indeed, the devil is about to throw some of you into prison, that you may be tested, and you will have tribulation ten days. Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
Revelation 2:10 NKJV

We must endure, as the message of our Savior must get out. Let us exalt the Lord in these times, giving Him glory and honor, even as the darkness falls. For darkness in itself, holds the promise of the coming dawn when the Son will rise and return to begin a new day.

I will give thanks to Thee
O Lord, among the people
I will sing praises to Thee
Among the nations
For Thy steadfast love is great
Is great to the heavens
And Thy faithfulness
Thy faithfulness to the clouds

Be exalted, O God
Above the heavens
Let Thy glory be over all the earth
Be exalted, O God
Above the heavens
Let Thy glory be over all the earth

  1. Excellent Bernie! Regarding being faithful to the end, we have a dear friend named Jean Johnston who is suffering pain from a brain tumor, and the associated treatment for the last 2 1/2 years. She has an MRI today with the reading scheduled for Friday. She is a wonderful, bright shining light of the gospel to all she comes in contact with. Her husband is a dear and wonderful friend and he is faithfully serving by her side. Will you please pray however you feel led in this situation? Thanks so much my friend!!!
