“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭46:1-3‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Coming attractions

For the follower of Jesus, these are exciting times, as everything appears to be tapering to a point, when current reality meets eternity. For the few western believers, mostly of the baptist tradition, there is much excitement about the prospect of the “pre trib rapture”, that time when those who are born again will be taken into heaven just before what many call the tribulation.

As for me, I am not very focused on the events to come, but more focused on the mission the Lord has set before me. There are so many people who have not come to know Jesus, and time is running out. I also know that we will endure much suffering before the Lord comes.

The Lord told us that we would have trouble in this world, and if we endure, we would rule and reign with Him in the New Heaven and New Earth.

It is that last part that I am most excited about, living in a world as it was intended, with no sin corrupting all of creation.

In these perilous times, we are seeing the preparation, the softening of the world. All of the corruption brought in by the fall, is reaching its apex, as the planet we live in is in peril.

God is ordaining many stresses upon the world, as the soil is being softened for the end times. The softening is also proving a abundant opportunities to share the Gospel, as even the blind are beginning to see.

As things become more and difficult, we must remind ourselves that God is in control.

Psalm forty six is an excellent reminder of God’s sovereignty, as He gives us a forecast of what is to come, with a reminder that He will preserve those who are His.

There is coming a day, beyond the reign of the coming Antichrist, beyond the coming of the Lord, beyond the one thousand year reign of Jesus, and beyond that dark day called the Great White Throne judgement, when those who have not called upon the name of the Lord will one judged. It will be a day when Jesus makes all things new.

“But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night, in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will melt with fervent heat; both the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up.”
II Peter 3:10 NKJV

When that great day of God comes, we will have witnessed the faithfulness of the Lord for a thousand years. Even as all melts before us, we will have peace, knowing that the Lord has a plan.

“There is a river whose streams shall make glad the city of God, The holy place of the tabernacle of the Most High. God is in the midst of her, she shall not be moved; God shall help her, just at the break of dawn. The nations raged, the kingdoms were moved; He uttered His voice, the earth melted. The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah”
Psalms 46:4-7 NKJV

I try and imagine my first steps in that new world. In this fallen world, in this failing body, I cannot fathom what that will be like, as all things now are corrupted.

God will be in the midst of this new world, as He will tabernacle with humanity, as He had intended when He created Adam.

Brothers and sisters, let us go about the commission the Lord has given us, exuding a confidence in the God who saved us. We know that He is working His plan, and that His plan will come to completion. He has invited us to come alongside, sharing the message of the Gospel to a sick and dying world.

“Come, behold the works of the Lord, Who has made desolations in the earth. He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; He breaks the bow and cuts the spear in two; He burns the chariot in the fire. Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth! The Lord of hosts is with us; The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah”
Psalms 46:8-11 NKJV

Things appear dark now, and the future seems darker still, but know this: the Lord is near. Good almighty is in the midst of all that is happening, and while we cannot see through to the end, we know that He can. He has given us His book, and at the end, we know that He brings the victory.

Enter each day knowing that the Lord is a very present help in time of trouble.
