“No king is saved by the multitude of an army; A mighty man is not delivered by great strength. A horse is a vain hope for safety; Neither shall it deliver any by its great strength. Behold, the eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him, On those who hope in His mercy, To deliver their soul from death, And to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waits for the Lord; He is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in Him, Because we have trusted in His holy name. Let Your mercy, O Lord, be upon us, Just as we hope in You.”
Psalms 33:16-22 NKJV
The world is facing many problems, many of the so dire as to radically transform the very nature of what it is to live on the earth. As I observe the goings on amongst the various people of the world, I marvel at the tendency of people to think that they can somehow fix the problems. Whether it be the environment, the search for world peace, social justice, or even a solution to this ongoing pandemic, humanity thinks too much of itself.
We actively deny the supernatural evil power behind it all. Only the power of God can deliver us.
I have learned on a personal level, that I can do nothing. In my youth, long past, I thought I was indestructible, all powerful, able to accomplish anything to which I set my mind and body. Age and illness has stripped away that illusion, and I know that my true power lies in the Lord.
“I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
Philippians 4:12-13 NKJV
Through life, I have known abasement, and plenty, and through it I have learned to abound only by the power and help of the Lord.
As I read through Psalm 33 this morning, I couldn’t help but think of all that is happening in our country and the world, and the futility of it all. Many kingdoms have risen and fallen, many great men and women have been brought low.
Even through the failures, humanity still looks for the quick fix, for the leader or program that can bring balance, and justice to everything and everyone. Truth be told, there is no one or nothing that can accomplish that. All the efforts of humanity have done little but make things worse.
Those who fear the Lord, know that He is there and that He is watching. His eye is truly on those who fear Him, and He is faithful and will complete all that He said He would. Those who rely on God by faith, are sustained, even in the most dire times.
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence.”
Psalms 91:1-3 NKJV
““Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.””
Psalms 91:14-16 NKJV
Brothers and sisters, let us set our love and trust upon Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. He laid aside His glory He knew with the Father to come to earth, living a life in humiliation, rejected, neglected, tortured, going to the cross for our sins. Because of Him, we can have access to true power. It is not power that provides health, wealth, and prosperity, though God can surely do that. It is the power to transform the human heart and save the soul from hell.
Even as my body withers, and I am being made ever needful, I have an increased joy as I marvel at the power of Jehovah Saboath, who is sovereign in every aspect of my life. I have no fear or want, no concern for the future, as I contemplate the glory two come.
May we be faithful to go and tell of this power that the Lord gives on our behalf.
