Called

“Then the Lord spoke to Moses, saying: “See, I have called by name Bezalel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, of the tribe of Judah. And I have filled him with the Spirit of God, in wisdom, in understanding, in knowledge, and in all manner of workmanship, to design artistic works, to work in gold, in silver, in bronze, in cutting jewels for setting, in carving wood, and to work in all manner of workmanship. “And I, indeed I, have appointed with him Aholiab the son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan; and I have put wisdom in the hearts of all the gifted artisans, that they may make all that I have commanded you: the tabernacle of meeting, the ark of the Testimony and the mercy seat that is on it, and all the furniture of the tabernacle— the table and its utensils, the pure gold lampstand with all its utensils, the altar of incense, the altar of burnt offering with all its utensils, and the laver and its base— the garments of ministry, the holy garments for Aaron the priest and the garments of his sons, to minister as priests, and the anointing oil and sweet incense for the holy place. According to all that I have commanded you they shall do.””

Called

God calls the willing into service, and and He is faithful to equip those He has called. Reading in Exodus chapter 31, I saw the calling of Bezalel, the son of Uri, the son of Our, of the tribe off Judah. God filled with with His Spirit, gave him wisdom, understanding and knowledge, that he be able to complete the tasks that he had been called to do.

Bezalel came to service of the Lord with empty hands, to be humbly used by the Lord to create His tabernacle. God has always been in the business of calling people to minister. Not every calling is as amazing as that of Bezalel, but can every bit as daunting, as the new follower of Jesus. But the Lord equips, those He calls.

I remember walking into Grace Church singles class for the first time. It had just been a few weeks since coming to know my Savior and Lord Jesus. I had completed the church’s “foundation class” and had been placed in the appropriate Sunday school.

There I stood in this room, once called the “fireside room”, feeling completely unsure. All that had transpired over the past few weeks had made me so unsteady, as each day was filled with new feelings, and baby steps of obedience, as I went forward with my new life in Christ.

Someone, not sure who, put me to work making name tags at the table at the door of the room. That was the first calling of God on my life. The is also where I began to develop the gift of encouragement that the Holy Spirit had provided, that I minister to the body of Christ. As I wrote names, I learned them, and greeted each person with a smile.

Throughout the history of the church of Jesus Christ, people have been called and gifted, and pressed into service. I think of Peter, the brash, uneducated fisherman. He had denied the Lord days before, but now the Lord had called him. During the days in the upper room, he was with the others in prayer, waiting for what would come next. When the time came, the Lord empowered Peter.

“When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. ”
Acts 2:1 NKJV

“And when this sound occurred, the multitude came together, and were confused, because everyone heard them speak in his own language. Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans?”
Acts 2:6-7 NKJV

“But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, “Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words. For these are not drunk, as you suppose, since it is only the third hour of the day.”
Acts 2:14-15 NKJV

Peter spoke of the mysteries of God with great authority, fulfilling the calling of God on his life for that moment, and the Lord added three thousand souls.

From the writing of my first name tag, to my time in prayer for the saints, the Lord has equipped me and filled me with His Holy Spirit, that I bring glory to Him in all He has called me to do.

Brothers and sisters, the Lord has brought us to a time of reckoning, as the end of all things is at hand. If history of the Gospel were a football game, we have just gotten the two minute warning. There is little time left.

I call upon you, to seek the Lord and ask how you may best serve the kingdom. The harvest is indeed ripe, and many are asking questions in these uncertain times. For so many, the idea of death, and what comes after is of great interest in this time of pandemic, addiction crisis and the ongoing potential for global war.

They have questions, and we who have believed, have the answers.

You may be one who thinks that you have no calling, that God has nothing for you to do. I can tell you that God has a calling for you. It might be a one time moment, that has huge significance. Think of the poor widow. I am sure that she entered the day, not knowing that her giving of her two mites, all that she had, would so move the heart of Jesus, that He would immortalize her for all eternity.

She responded to the calling, giving her all.

“And He looked up and saw the rich putting their gifts into the treasury, and He saw also a certain poor widow putting in two mites. So He said, “Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had.””
Luke 21:1-4 NKJV

We will never know her name on this side of eternity, but the Lord knew her, and I am sure she is in glory.

Whatever the calling the Lord lays on your life, know that God is able, that He will fill you with His Holy Spirit, giving you all manner of wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, that you serve Him with love and grace as an ambassador.
