Twenty twenty two

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭23:1-6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Twenty twenty two

I am a gluten for punishment. I have the tendency to research things to the nth degree, seeking to know all that I can about a given subject. It is my way of adjusting to things happening in my world. Sometimes my research yields good news, and assurance that things won’t be all that bad. Other times, however, I find bad news, revealing potential horrors to come.

Twenty twenty two could be interesting…

Just when I think the sky is about to fall, and evil to prevail, I encounter Psalm 23 in my morning reading. Instead of impending terror, my heart is filled with gladness and peace, as I know my God is sovereign and for me.

“The Lord is my Shepherd; I shall not want… I can tell you that the economy is going to take a hit in the coming year, and even now it is difficult to get an increasing number of things. All the negative indicators are on the rise, many families are struggling. But there is hope.

I can personally attest to my LORD who provides, Jehovah Jireh. He has carried me through many years now, of life on a fixed income. All glory to God, I have not hungered, been without a place to lay my head, nor had a basic need unmet.

He has also provided for me spiritually, as I have been able to abide in Him through the darkest moments. In His word, I find a vast treasure house of wisdom, far more worthy than gold or precious silver. It will be no different in twenty twenty two, come what may.

“Happy is the man who finds wisdom, And the man who gains understanding; For her proceeds are better than the profits of silver, And her gain than fine gold. She is more precious than rubies, And all the things you may desire cannot compare with her.”
Proverbs 3:13-15 NKJV

“He makes me lay down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul. “… I have lived a life of constant battle, from with in and without, and through it all the Lord has provided peace. I find that I find the greatest peace in my solitude, as my world is made small.

I find great comfort in the Jehovah Shalom, the LORD my peace, when I read his word as I am able to see the lives and stories of other people who have abided in the Lord. I know that I can look to Him and have confidence, as He forms a strong and steady anchor when my ship enters choppy seas.

“He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name’s sake.” Jehovah Tsidkenu, the Lord my righteousness, guides me into this ever changing world, as I face many more challenges. The world has deviated from the truth of God’s word, and it is easy to be drawn into that deviation.

But the Lord, gives great wisdom that protects the heart and mind of the Christian who chooses to read and obey.

“Blessed is the man Who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, And in His law he meditates day and night. He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper.”
Psalms 1:1-3 NKJV

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” The Lord goes before me with a two fold ministry in my life, as He deals with external threats that can draw me away, and reins me in when I wander. The Holy Spirit provided constant conviction, setting my moral parameters in which I abide.

Brothers and sisters know that, as we prepare for the coming year, that our Lord has already prepared the way, for He knows the end from the beginning. He is going before us into the unknown, as our Banner, Jehovah Nissi, proclaiming His sovereignty and that we are HIs. May we be faithful to go with boldness to share the Gospel, telling people about Jesus.

Spend some time this week praying and meditating on the goodness of God, as we prepare for the end of this year, and the beginning of the next…

Happy Sunday!

  1. You truly have lived a life of constant battle my friend. I love the great and strong man it has caused you to be. I have been focusing on Psalm 23 over the last few years, even more. I pray that we both have submissive spirits to trust the Shepherd of our lives, and submit to His gracious, loving and gentle leading.
