““Whatever I tell you in the dark, speak in the light; and what you hear in the ear, preach on the housetops. And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows. “Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies Me before men, him I will also deny before My Father who is in heaven.”
Matthew 10:27-29, 31-33 NKJV
Standing in the open square and proclaiming the unchanging word of God will soon, not be tolerated, and those daring to do so will face great threats against their freedom and even their lives. Many will choose, in that time, to be quiet, hoping to remain hidden, and safe.
Jesus has given us a message to share, one given us in darkness, but meant to be proclaimed in the light. We learn about Jesus in the privacy of our churches, shut away from the world, but that knowledge is not meant to remain there. We are commanded to leave the pew and go out into the public square to proclaim the Good News to the world.
We must not be silent in these perilous times, even though the pressure to conform to the world is growing greater. There should be no fear of what man can do got us, for we have God on our side. He is the One who holds our fate, completely sovereign, determining if we live or die. We are justified by only Him.
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.”
Romans 8:31-34 NKJV
While we need not fear man, we must fear God. Man can kill our bodies, the the Lord has the power to kill our bodies and our souls. In facing the wrath of man, I know where I am going, as Jesus has provided for me on the cross. Because of that great sacrifice, God has commanded us to go and tell, and each of us, having salvation in Christ, will stand in judgement at the Bema Seat. The will of God is sovereign, and nothing can befall you that has not been ordained by Him.
The world will hate us regardless of whether we remain silent or whether we are bold. Let us be bold!
The world is sliding fast, and taking many with it. Insanity is reigning and few have the courage to speak truth into the world. We who have heard and responded to the Gospel have a great message of redemption and life change, as many of us have been literally saved from the brink of death.
We must confess Jesus into this sick and dying world, as hope is fading.
I am glad for the bold people the Lord sent into my life to tell me about Jesus. I think of Dana the bass player dude from the University of Iowa, who challenged my weird beliefs, and for Jan who had the courage to invite me to church. I will be forever be thankful the deaf lady in Iowa City, so many years ago.
Each of them had a boldness to stand and share, willing to withstand the criticism of one very lost, and angry man who, without their testimony, was destined for hell.
Brothers and sisters, let us be bold! Stand and deliver, regardless of what may come. Let us adhere to the urgings of Paul to Timothy, who ministered in a similar situation as we live today.
“I charge you therefore before God and the Lord Jesus Christ, who will judge the living and the dead at His appearing and His kingdom: Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers; and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to fables. But you be watchful in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, fulfill your ministry.”
II Timothy 4:1-5 NKJV
