“My son, do not forget my law, But let your heart keep my commands; For length of days and long life And peace they will add to you. Let not mercy and truth forsake you; Bind them around your neck, Write them on the tablet of your heart, And so find favor and high esteem In the sight of God and man. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:1-6 NKJV
Trust in the Lord
When I consider how my life has gone these many years, I try to imagine how I would have faired if I had not know Jesus. God showed me great grace during the years that I did not know Him, as I faced very few real trials. Whatever bad things I encountered, I could power through in the flesh.
When the big stuff began to occur, such as my cancer, my kidney failure and a host of other issues, I was thankful that I had a guidance outside of myself. I could only see what was coming in front of me, as I lacked the view of God, who sees everything from the end to the beginning. Over time I have to trust the Lord, and understand that whatever I would face, He already knew about it.
As the things coming into my life loomed ever larger, I found that my God was bigger than any of them. The more I faced, the greater my faith. My trust was not based on some blind leap, that I came to out of shear will, but on the bedrock of Scripture. In the pages of my bible, I saw example after example of God’s goodness and faithfulness.
I could see all the people who depended on the Lord before me, and I knew thatI could trust Him too.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s. The Lord executes righteousness And justice for all who are oppressed.”
Psalms 103:1-6 NKJV
In the midst of all the things I had encountered, God was and is faithful.
It can be difficult to trust in the Lord with all of one’s heart. There are so many voices that are shouting at us to do things our own way, to eschew the ways of God. It is in the resistance to the noise of this world, that the light of the Lord shines most brightly.
The more we trust, the more He comes through for us, never leaving us or abandoning us. Sadly, we tend to abandon Him. In the heat of trial, we give into the temptations to move from the ways of God, and begin to trust our own ways, all too often the very ways that got us into trouble in the first place. In a panic, we run to God, pleading for mercy.
As the Word of God has soaked into my heart and my mind, I have found that trusting is much easier, and His ways are becoming my first reference. When trouble comes, I seek the Lord in prayer, I consult His word. When I see conflict I pray for both myself, and anyone with whom I may have that conflict.
Brothers and sister, we are facing a wide variety of things in our lives, especially now that the evil one knows his days are numbered. We must cling to the Lord and trust Him like no other time. Many things are happening, and many more will happen.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.”
Proverbs 3:5-6 NKJV
You will be directed, guided along the treacherous path that is life in these days. The Lord is faithful and He is going before us. To attempt to live in these days without Him, is like stepping into total darkness. But, God is our light, giving us His word like a light into that darkness.
God sent His Son the Word into the darkness, and those who have been saved, have the Holy Spirit, the Helper to lead the way.
“In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.”
John 1:4-5 NKJV
“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”
Psalms 119:105 NKJV
It is getting dark, gentle readers. It is time to turn on the Light.
