““Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock. “But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.””

Solid

Something that appears to be in short supply is stability. It seems that our entire world is swirling about on loose sand, being shaken by a series of societal earthquakes. The ground beneath us is undulating, rolling, and it is increasingly hard to remain upright.

What we thought was established, is no longer so, as it has been built on an unstable foundation. One good storm and it all comes tumbling down. Reading through the sayings of Jesus in Matthew chapter seven this morning. I love to read those passages, as they provide many cautionary warnings for the follower of Jesus.

We all read our bibles, or so we say we do. We scan through the pages, check off our boxes for the day and move on. I am not sure if we actually take it seriously, being sure to not only read it, but do what it says. Inside everyone is a spirit of pride, that is counter to the Spirit of God. By our fleshly spirit, we think that we can accomplish what we desire by our own methods.

We build our houses on the loosest of sand, soft and easily moved. When the trials come, and they most certainly do, we flail about powerlessly, trying to find solid ground. It is not until we finally run out of our own options, and are about to fall, that look to climb on the rock. We finally turn to God. More often thn not, by then it is too late.

“It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in man. It is better to trust in the Lord Than to put confidence in princes.”

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33 NKJV

Instead of seeking God, and trusting Him, we turn our allegiances to other things, which eventually fail. Now is the time to build on the foundation that is Christ. Our world is passing away right before our eyes.

Jesus commanded us to go into all the world and share the Gospel, making disciples where ever we go. He did not call us to gain power on the world stage, or bring about social justice, but to go and tell. We have forgotten that God Himself is the one who saves and brings the harvest. He is one who establishes kingdoms and brings them down.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and depart from evil. It will be health to your flesh, And strength to your bones. Honor the Lord with your possessions, And with the firstfruits of all your increase; So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine.”
Proverbs 3:5-10 NKJV

The winds are beginning blow stronger and stronger, and soon the rain will fall. Brothers and sisters, let us batten down the hatches, and pound our moorings into the solid rock. It is only by faith in Jesus, that we will be able to endure. The Lord provides everything we need to weather the storm.

In the midst of that coming storm, we must still be on mission, representing Jesus even to those who oppose us. Under pressure, we must represent Him, projecting His love and warning of His justice.
