“For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, And preserves the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, Equity and every good path. When wisdom enters your heart, And knowledge is pleasant to your soul, Discretion will preserve you; Understanding will keep you, To deliver you from the way of evil, From the man who speaks perverse things, From those who leave the paths of uprightness To walk in the ways of darkness; Who rejoice in doing evil, And delight in the perversity of the wicked; Whose ways are crooked, And who are devious in their paths;”
Proverbs 2:6-15 NKJV
Society today is akin to a man walking on a wind swept desert plain, not real sure of where he is going. The wind is strong, and blowing the sand hard across his path. When he looks back to see where he has been, his tracks have disappeared.
We seem bent on putting all of our cultural past into a memory hole, seeking to erase what was, failing to realize that what was, has a profound impact on what will be. Too many of those who profess to be followers of Jesus have gone a long away toward pushing the Scriptures aside, or worse yet, elevating tradition and experience to be even with the word.
We embrace seemingly new moral ground, with no reference points in Scripture. In reality, there is nothing new under the sun, and all that we attempt is vanity. If we held on to the word of God, we would know that. Solomon had the opportunity to engage in every pleasure under then sun, and in the end, he came to one conclusion.
“Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man’s all. For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.”
Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 NKJV
Because we have actively erased the tracks of those who have come before us, as we have sought to blaze new trails, we have nearly lost sight of the most important tracks of all, those that set our course along the Roman Road, leading to salvation in Jesus.
It is becoming increasingly hard to find people in the church, let alone the world, who have any idea as to what the Gospel means. They do not know that Jesus came to earth, humbled as a baby, living in human form, to one day die for the sins of the world.
“For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures, and that He was seen by Cephas, then by the twelve. After that He was seen by over five hundred brethren at once, of whom the greater part remain to the present, but some have fallen asleep. After that He was seen by James, then by all the apostles. Then last of all He was seen by me also, as by one born out of due time.”
I Corinthians 15:3-8 NKJV
Fortunately, God has those who are His who are faithful to go and tell of this great salvation. They are like living bread crumbs, creating a path back to the way to God. God has made us to be bread crumbs, as people who have found the way back, who stand and give direction to all who pass.
“As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;”
Romans 3:10 NKJV
“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,”
Romans 3:23 NKJV
“But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
Romans 5:8 NKJV
For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 6:23 NKJV
“that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”
Romans 10:9-10 NKJV
In the Scriptures, these tracks have stood the test of time, and will do so forever despite our best efforts to wipe them out. The Lord always has faithful servants, who desire to go and tell others. Pray that the Lord make you a bread crumb, faithful to tell others of the way to salvation.
The winds are blowing hard, my brothers and sisters, and one day soon the One who created even the wind will return. When He comes, there will be no more need for bread crumbs, for He will come and we and the world will see Him. What was once perceived by faith, will be seen.
“Behold, He is coming with clouds, and every eye will see Him, even they who pierced Him. And all the tribes of the earth will mourn because of Him. Even so, Amen. “I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.””
Revelation 1:7-8 NKJV
