Word

“My son, if you receive my words, And treasure my commands within you, So that you incline your ear to wisdom, And apply your heart to understanding; Yes, if you cry out for discernment, And lift up your voice for understanding, If you seek her as silver, And search for her as for hidden treasures; Then you will understand the fear of the Lord, And find the knowledge of God.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭2:1-5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Word

There came a moment when the word of God became my lifeline. I have written previously of my cancer experience so many years ago, and how the Lord escorted me through it by His word. I had made sure that I had taken my bible with me to the hospital. Over the next seven weeks, amidst all the poking, probing, treats and eventually, radiation and chemo, I focused on the Scriptures, seeking to follow Jesus.

Since then, my relationship with Scripture has grown more and more intimate, as it has become my go to in these increasingly difficult days. Our world is very fluid, with morality constantly changing and no real sense of what is right and what is wrong.

As I have sought the Lord, I have found that mat desire to read His word has been increased, as the Lord tends to feed my desire. Proverbs chapter two has been a stone of remembrance for me, as I frequently go back to my Mayo Bible and look back at that passage and remember all the tears shed over it.

We are living in a time when people are actively neglecting the bible and its timeless wisdom. The greater reality is that our world has stopped believing in God. We are like a ship with no rudder, adrift and floating into a storm. The ship also lacks an anchor, and those aboard are destined to find themselves shipwrecked.

Followers of Jesus Christ have been given an incredible gift, as we have access to the knowledge of God. By the power and help of the Holy Spirit, we can have understanding of the Word of God. Because of Jesus, the Living Word made flesh, we can know what ought to be.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth. John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ” And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.”
John 1:14-18 NKJV

The world we living in is dire need of truth, as lies have been perpetuated, deceiving many. The word of God cuts through all the fog of these uncertain times, and gives us insight into the truth. It is like an X-ray of these times.

“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are naked and open to the eyes of Him to whom we must give account.”
Hebrews 4:12-13 NKJV

Brothers and sisters, let us take the time to read our bibles. I have noticed in some of the assemblies I have been a part of, or have visited, that few actually bring their bibles to church. Inevitably, I have to wonder if they ever really read the bible at home. The Scriptures are the day to day guide for the believer.

We have been given a mission to go into all the world and bring the Gospel. Age this late date, it is truly a rescue mission. In order to correctly do what the Lord has commanded, we must know the God that we profess to represent, and the only way we can know Him is to read His word.

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
II Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV

In the times to come, the word will become a lifeline for many, as the pressures will be unbearable, and we have to rely on what we know to endure. Let what we know be the word of God.

Happy Sunday!

  1. I remember that mayo clinic Bible. So thankful for what the Lord has done through that difficult time, and the mini difficult days sense. You are a great blessing in challenge to be my friend.
