“Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the Lord, They would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke. Therefore they shall eat the fruit of their own way, And be filled to the full with their own fancies. For the turning away of the simple will slay them, And the complacency of fools will destroy them; But whoever listens to me will dwell safely, And will be secure, without fear of evil.””
Proverbs 1:29-33 NKJV
Self destruction
One of the ongoing battles I face, is the desire to leave people in their sin as they head to self destruction. In the past, I have had roles where I was responsible for trying to instruct others on the things they ought to do. More often than not, my efforts were met with rejection, and a barrage of insults, many challenging my parentage, or disparaging my racial identity.
In my darker, more frustrated times, I felt like I just wanted to walk away, and leave them to whatever fate was in store for them. Back in those days it was my job to press on, even if I didn’t want to, and persist in in trying to impart wisdom.
Working my way through Proverbs chapter one, I saw the limits of God’s patience. The Lord provides tremendous grace, as He waits on us to come to know wisdom. God has foreknowledge, and knows who will ultimately seek Him and who will not. There is a point where the Lord ceases to draw the unbeliever and gives them over to their profane desires.
“Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen. For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.”
Romans 1:24-27 NKJV
There are times when we who follow Jesus wonder how long it will be before the Lord brings judgment to the world. With each passing day, it is becoming more depraved, and out of control. I have learned that the Lord is giving us time to go out and tell the world of the Good News.
Sadly, may of us have pursued the fighting of the culture war, a war we are destined to lose. We have been distracted from using our greatest weapon, the transforming power of the Gospel.
But, time is running out.
In these perilous times, those whose values spring from the flesh, are rejoicing in their apparent victory, as the world seems to be moving sway from God. The reality is, Sovereign God is giving humanity over to its fancies, who in a spirit of complacency, has ceased to question if what they are doing is right or wrong. Their consciences have been seared without remedy.
Brothers and sisters, we must still press on, sharing the message of the Gospel to anyone who will hear. There are still those who have noticed the decline of life on earth, and are questioning. They desire to know a different way. May we pray and ask the Lord to provide us with those opportunities to share the story of Jesus, who came to earth in the form of humanity, lived a sinless life, and died for our sins.
We are in a race against time.
In the latter days, a strong delusion, preparing those that refuse the draw of the Holy Spirit for the coming of the man of sin. For many, that time has already begun. I have personally witnessed the falling away of many people who previously professed to follow Jesus.
“The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders, and with all unrighteous deception among those who perish, because they did not receive the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this reason God will send them strong delusion, that they should believe the lie, that they all may be condemned who did not believe the truth but had pleasure in unrighteousness.”
II Thessalonians 2:9-12 NKJV
We are in a time when the world is rejoicing in unrighteousness, and there is no bottom to the depth of depravity. Let us rejoice in the purity of the word of God and may our lives reflect the salvation we have received. God has given us an unsinkable buoy in His word, that we may hang onto even as the world is pulled into the undertow of sin.
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”
Philippians 4:8-9 NKJV
