“I will praise You with my whole heart; Before the gods I will sing praises to You. I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name. In the day when I cried out, You answered me, And made me bold with strength in my soul. All the kings of the earth shall praise You, O Lord, When they hear the words of Your mouth. Yes, they shall sing of the ways of the Lord, For great is the glory of the Lord. Though the Lord is on high, Yet He regards the lowly; But the proud He knows from afar. Though I walk in the midst of trouble, You will revive me; You will stretch out Your hand Against the wrath of my enemies, And Your right hand will save me. The Lord will perfect that which concerns me; Your mercy, O Lord, endures forever; Do not forsake the works of Your hands.”
Psalms 138:1-8 NKJV
Endure
The hits keep coming! Oil prices going up, energy costs rising, and strife across the globe. There seems To be no peace in the world. No one is spared, not infants, not old people, not the young, not those in the middle. All are being pounded by the things happening in our world. Casualties are everywhere.
Yet I rejoice.
In the midst of the darkening times, I am able to see the hand and doings of God more clearly, as the end game is nearly in view. As events unfold, I can see the increasing relevance of the Scriptures, as their substance is being echoed in the times and in the media, as the mornings headlines seem sometimes to be torn from the pages of the bible. I feel like we are in a time when we hold the newspaper in one trembling hand, while clutching the bible fiercely in the other.
The unfolding realities that we behold are confirming the truth of the Scriptures each day. We cry out to the Lord in these desperate times with confidence that He hears us and will answer.
Because of His love and His attention to us, we rejoice in the midst of uncertainty having the full understanding that we have a God who is certain. I know that the journey will be long, but I also know that Jesus will be with me every step of the way. He had endured all manner of suffering on His way to the cross, yet He went anyway. Because of His willingness, we have salvation and a destiny for eternity with Him.
Brothers and sisters, He is here with us, in the midst of these perilous times, and you can call out to Him. He hears your most pained whisper, and your most desperate cry.
“I will bless the Lord at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the Lord; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me, And let us exalt His name together. I sought the Lord, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears. They looked to Him and were radiant, And their faces were not ashamed. This poor man cried out, and the Lord heard him, And saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps all around those who fear Him, And delivers them. Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good; Blessed is the man who trusts in Him!”
Psalms 34:1-8 NKJV
Oh taste and see my people! It is easy to be distracted and drawn toward the loudness and sadness of these present times, taking our hearts and minds off of Christ, but let us be faithful to seek Jesus, for He is faithfully interceding on our behalf with the Father.
Because of His supreme sacrifice, we have access to God, the One who holds the future and every soul. We know from His Holy Scriptures, how it all comes out. Come what may, we will be victorious in Christ. There is no downside.
We will endure persecution along the way, but we know that we have a God who can deliver us from trials, deliver us through trials, and deliver us into Heaven. Let us have the heart of Paul, pressing on.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Finally, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give to me on that Day, and not to me only but also to all who have loved His appearing.”
II Timothy 4:7-8 NKJV
Let us endure and be reminded daily of the glory to come. God is working in those who have called upon the name of the Lord for salvation, and we are being changed from the inside out. What we will be like, we do not know, but we are assured that God is doing a work that will be spectacular.
Let us endure and finish the race set before us.
“For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.”
Romans 8:18 NKJV
