“The name of the Lord is a strong tower; The righteous run to it and are safe.”
Proverbs 18:10 NKJV
Towers
It was a beautiful morning. I came to work and sat at my desk at Goodwill going through my planner as I prepared for my day. There was not a lot on my mind on that Tuesday morning, as I sipped my coffee and considered what I was to work on first. After 8:15 or so, my boss, Dave Parr knocked on my door and poked his head in. He had a shocked, frantic look on his face.
“A plane hit the World Trade Center!”
I grabbed my old Kyrocera phone which had internet on it, and fished through all the text links until I found a story about the “accident.” Just when I got to it, the story refreshed: a second plane had hit the other tower. What I thought was a mishap, became something more sinister, as I realized the country was under attack.
It was like everything in the entire building came to a sudden halt, as people stopped whatever they were doing and went to the electronics area of donated goods to look at a television that was on.
I woke up this morning, remembering that today was the twenty year anniversary of that terrorist act.
I remember what my day was like in the aftermath, of all the conversations I had with people who were suddenly spiritually aware. God had taken that horrible moment in American history and opened a momentary gateway where I had the opportunity to share the Gospel.
Many churches were busy that week, as shocked and frightened people flooded in, looking for answers, stunned by what had happened. My local church had about 500 visitors on that first Sunday after the towers fell.
Pastor Phil Winfield preached from Hebrews chapter 12 that Sunday, on the Unshakeable Kingdom.
“Now this, “Yet once more,” indicates the removal of those things that are being shaken, as of things that are made, that the things which cannot be shaken may remain. Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire.”
Hebrews 12:27-29 NKJV
Though the shock and fear that shook the world on that day eventually faded, we once again find ourselves shocked and confused. The entire globe is being shaken mercilessly, by pandemic, by racial strife, by failing governments, by all manner of economic upheaval. Then there is the vaccine. It is all happening so quickly, and it is becoming difficult to maintain a steady footing.
On 9/11, what were considered to be strong towers fell, but there is a true strong tower where eternal safety can be found.
Some of us have experienced more shaking than others, as life has been more than difficult. Others are having their lives shaken for the first time. Those of us who are the veterans are obligated to share of the faithfulness of God in the time of trial.
He is like the high ground in a flood, offering refuge, where we can be safe.
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.”
Psalms 91:1, 3-4 NKJV
Much is happening. What seemed distant, on the other side of the world in the past, is now all too close, as technology has made our world small, with things happening thousands of miles away, having the impact of events right down the street. There is a weariness, a daily struggle for many people, as there appears to be little good news.
Brothers and sisters, we have Good News!
Just as many people came to my office to ask eternal questions after the towers fell, the circumstances of these present times are creating openings for divine appointments, for opportunities to share the story of Jesus, who came to earth, to make away for sinful man to reconciled with Holy God.
We have the opportunity to tell of towers that will not fall, of a coming kingdom that is truly unshakable.
“Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.” Then He who sat on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and faithful.””
Revelation 21:2-5 NKJV
THE PRAYER CHAIR IS OPEN! Send me your requests!
As we approach the “sage“ stage of our Christian pilgrimage, you’re closer than I am, LOL. May we look more and more fervently to Jesus, “the author and perfector of our faith.“
Great meditations this morning, as always my friend. God bless you brother
