“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.”
Philippians 4:8-9 NKJV
I slept well last night. For some days, the troubles of this certain age have consumed my thoughts. I feel as though the weight of the world is on me, weighing me down. My feelings were best summed up by my cousin Rich: “sometimes I wish I was oblivious to what was going in the world.”
Things have become so confusing, as the values of this world appear to have no root, no foundation and all of humanity is doing what it thinks is right in its own eyes. All peace is robbed, and anxiety has become the status quo.
My good sleep last night had to do with laying aside all the things of this world that are lies, all the things that are not just, and all that is not pure, and focusing on the things of God.
“If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory.”
Colossians 3:1-4 NKJV
Having been raised with Christ, freed from slavery to sin, I can look on high, seeking after the holy things. I create for myself a bubble, and place of refugee, where I can focus on the Lord, His word, and a life in Him. By no means am I disconnected from the realities of life within my bubble, but by using the Lord as my reference point, I am able to approach reality from the perspective of the supernatural.
There is much to be consumed with these days, as the world as we know it is being transformed and prepared, as a farmer prepares fallow ground, for the work of God to come. There is so much change, that it is easy to find oneself caught up, dazed and confused. There is great insanity.
Brothers and sisters, let us seek comfort in the knowledge of the one who numbers the stars, who places the heavens in place. He is the one who has created all things, and only He is worthy of our focus.
“Lift up your eyes on high, And see who has created these things, Who brings out their host by number; He calls them all by name, By the greatness of His might And the strength of His power; Not one is missing.”
Isaiah 40:26 NKJV
“I will lift up my eyes to the hills— From whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Shall neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord is your keeper; The Lord is your shade at your right hand.”
Psalms 121:1-5 NKJV
My help comes from the Lord.
It does not come from the news, not from pundits, nor from politicians, but from the Lord. He alone is sovereign, and the source of all things beautiful. Following Jesus is the recipe for true peace. Let us shelter in the Lord, and bless His holy name.
He has done great things for us, and gave all that we can be saved.
“Bless the Lord, O my soul; And all that is within me, bless His holy name! Bless the Lord, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.”
Psalms 103:1-5 NKJV
