““The sun shall no longer be your light by day, Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you; But the Lord will be to you an everlasting light, And your God your glory. Your sun shall no longer go down, Nor shall your moon withdraw itself; For the Lord will be your everlasting light, And the days of your mourning shall be ended. Also your people shall all be righteous; They shall inherit the land forever, The branch of My planting, The work of My hands, That I may be glorified. A little one shall become a thousand, And a small one a strong nation. I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time.””
Isaiah 60:19-22 NKJV
““For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former shall not be remembered or come to mind. But be glad and rejoice forever in what I create; For behold, I create Jerusalem as a rejoicing, And her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, And joy in My people; The voice of weeping shall no longer be heard in her, Nor the voice of crying.”
Isaiah 65:17-19 NKJV
Sometimes I awaken in the night, filled with dread over all that is happening in the world. This morning it was the news of a looming storm, bound for Louisiana on the sixteenth anniversary of Katrina. Then there is the reports of the mission to evacuate allies and others from Afghanistan. Inevitably, I think of my brothers and sisters there, and what life will be like after September 1. I wept, cried out to God, and handed it off to Him.
I woke up wobbly this morning, my body mopping up the last of the sepsis with the help of antibiotics. I felt a bit of darkness in my soul as I stumbled about. I settled down for what would be a marathon session in the word, as I had fallen behind and was committed to catching up, to satisfy the performance demands of my flesh.
Isaiah sixty stood out against the darkness threatening to envelop my day, as God sent the coming promise of His light to banish the away my own melancholy. I was reminded that Jesus is coming again.
To my brothers and sisters in Afghanistan, we are praying for you. Some of us are marshaling funds to help you, and still others are working on things that cannot be spoken of, but know this: We are one with you.
In the meantime, remember the light, the coming day with Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith will return. There will be a long dark night, but God is good.
Pray for us in the West. We have allowed our faith to be shipwrecked, drained of the saving blood of Jesus, and replaced with blood of patriots that cannot save. Pray that we have revival, that we return to our first love, that we be the church Jesus called us to be. If it be through the fire of persecution, let it burn deep, and purify us.
To my brothers and sisters here at home. Let us not simply go “tsk, tsk..” when we see the suffering of those who call upon the same God as we, but let us empathize, knowing that someday, it will be us. Pray for those in persecution as if you are praying for yourselves. Give money if you can. But definitely, pray.
Thanks to certain blessings afforded me, I plan to dramatically up my game. It is now of never. I challenge you, my brothers and sisters here at home, to do the same. Over the last twenty years, the Lord has used illness to stoke my fire. Each recovery has resulted in an even greater urgency to serve and to pray.
I sense an urgency and a will like never before. I Suspect we are nearing zero hour.
There is a coming light, my people. Let us endure until the dawn.
“But I saw no temple in it, for the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb are its temple. The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it. But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles, or causes an abomination or a lie, but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.”
Revelation 21:22-27 NKJV
