“For unto us a Child is born, Unto us a Son is given; And the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace There will be no end, Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, To order it and establish it with judgment and justice From that time forward, even forever. The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.”
Isaiah 9:6-7 NKJV
I saw a map last night of all the wild fires burning around the world. It looked like the planet was on fire. In that moment, I considered all the bad things happening in the world, and I became giddy. Under normal circumstances, such a reaction would seem contrary, almost insane, as for the fleshly man, this world is our home, and it is all we have. But I am a Christian, a follower of Jesus, and this place is but a place of sojourn, stopping point, a place of ministry, before I am called to my eternal home in Heaven.
In the midst of the trouble, I happened on Isaiah chapter 9 in my reading this morning, and was reminded that the Lord is coming again, this time to establish His Kingdom on earth, and bring judgement and justice.
All of the things we are seeing are but birth pangs, as the Lord softens the world for all that must transpire in the days to come. In a very real sense, things are getting bad, which means things are going to get real good.
“And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows.”
Matthew 24:4-8 NKJV
These things are a signal for us, to urge us to begin to pray, seeking our glorious and all powerful God. We must pray about the small things and the big things, because our Lord is concerned about it all.
Brothers and sisters, let us be about the Father’s business, and seek Him and His righteousness, leaving the details to the Lord. We know that our time is short, and there are so many who have not come to the saving knowledge of the Gospel.
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
Matthew 6:33 NKJV
God knows what you need in these perilous times, and He is already working before you know there is a need. He is already planning to see you through.
I think of Rahab the Harlot, living in the very wall that would soon come crashing down. She demonstrated faith in the God she did not know and hid the spies from the enemies that pursued them. She and many more had heard of this God of power who did great things.
“For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were on the other side of the Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom you utterly destroyed. And as soon as we heard these things, our hearts melted; neither did there remain any more courage in anyone because of you, for the Lord your God, He is God in heaven above and on earth beneath. Now therefore, I beg you, swear to me by the Lord, since I have shown you kindness, that you also will show kindness to my father’s house, and give me a true token, and spare my father, my mother, my brothers, my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death.””
Joshua 2:10-13 NKJV
What a great picture, type and shadow, of believers in the end times, spared from destruction that will cover the world, delivered safely into the promised land. And then there is Rahab, saved by a scarlet thread, a reminder from the Passover blood on the lintels in Egypt, and both, a picture of the blood of Jesus that saves us from our sins.
Do not fear the things that must come to pass, but be encouraged as you hear all the bad news. Remember the Good News, that you have been forgiven and saved. Go and tell those around you of this Jesus, who went to the cross and died for your sins.
Many things are going to happen in our world, and it will be easy to become worried and fearful. It will also be easy to go into denial and think that things will get back to “normal.”
“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.””
Joshua 1:9 NKJV
“Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.”
Matthew 24:30-31 NKJV
