Destiny

“For this reason I also have been much hindered from coming to you. But now no longer having a place in these parts, and having a great desire these many years to come to you, whenever I journey to Spain, I shall come to you. For I hope to see you on my journey, and to be helped on my way there by you, if first I may enjoy your company for a while.

Now I beg you, brethren, through the Lord Jesus Christ, and through the love of the Spirit, that you strive together with me in prayers to God for me, that I may be delivered from those in Judea who do not believe, and that my service for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints, that I may come to you with joy by the will of God, and may be refreshed together with you.
‭‭Romans‬ ‭15:22-24, 30-32 NKJV‬‬

Destiny

When we proceed through life, we are moving forward blind, as we have no idea how each step is part of a greater plan. From our perspective, which is linear, it all seems random, with each event or incident in isolation, seemingly unconnected to the next which is unknown and unseen.

I am wrapping up my umpteenth reading of Romans. Paul is on his way to Jerusalem to take support to the believers there who are struggling against the famine that had afflicted the region. By this time, the Holy Spirit had alerted him of things to come, and even a seer named Agabus had warned him. Paul was on mission and nothing stood in his way.

“And finding disciples, we stayed there seven days. They told Paul through the Spirit not to go up to Jerusalem.

When he had come to us, he took Paul’s belt, bound his own hands and feet, and said, “Thus says the Holy Spirit, ‘So shall the Jews at Jerusalem bind the man who owns this belt, and deliver him into the hands of the Gentiles.’ ””
‭‭Acts‬ ‭21:4, 11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Though there were warnings, he had no idea what waited him, but he knew that God had gone before him and would be with him. He has experienced the faithfulness of God.

I have found that it is in the looking back, that I see the grand plan of God. I am in a place of pausing these days, relying on the Lord, as I have the time to meditate on His word, pray and write. When I look back at each contributing factor that has led me to this time, I can see what God was doing.

The path invisible in the heat of battle, is clear as I look back at each step in the journey. He was writing my destiny.

In the midst of any given moment, I had no idea. I only had the reality in front of me, and nothing to go on. But, like Paul, I knew that God was with me and would not leave me nor forsake me. In the midst of every health trial, I looked for how it all would work out for the glory of Jesus, for the furthering of the Gospel.

“And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭8:28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Indeed, all the things I faced worked together for good, not only for my general welfare, but for the good of sharing the story of this great salvation we have in Jesus. The events of my turbulent life were a testimony to the glory of God.

Paul was going to endure much on his way to Rome, as he would be beaten, threatened, shipwrecked, falsely accused, and imprisoned. All of these things worked together for good.

Some of those who read this may themselves be in a storm, measuring each step, unsure of what comes next. Rest assured my brothers and sisters, that if you are walking with the Lord, your steps are established. God knows where you are, and He knows where He is taking you.

This spiritual life is a journey, that the Lord Himself is in control of, even as you might feel as if your are lost. The key is to maintain a constant, conscious, contact with you Creator, your King, as the Holy Spirit serves as your guide.

My destiny was written from the foundation of the earth. He knew my best day, my worst day, the moment of my first breath, and the second I take my last. He is sovereign. He will complete His work.

“being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ;”
‭‭Philippians‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

In the midst of daily battles, rest in the knowledge that Jesus loves you, that He cares for you, and all that you may experience is not in vain.

“Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭15:33‬ ‭NKJV‬‬
