“I will praise You with my whole heart; Before the gods I will sing praises to You. I will worship toward Your holy temple, And praise Your name For Your lovingkindness and Your truth; For You have magnified Your word above all Your name. In the day when I cried out, You answered me, And made me bold with strength in my soul.”
Psalms 138:1-3 NKJV
“I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth. My soul shall make its boast in the LORD; The humble shall hear of it and be glad. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, And let us exalt His name together. I sought the LORD, and He heard me, And delivered me from all my fears.”
Psalms 34:1-4 NKJV
One of the hard things about being a person who has been abused, maligned and neglected repeatedly through life, is a lack of trust in people.
As a result of all that I have gone through, I find that I opt for solitude, where I can be free of unsafe people who have faulty boundaries. I try desperately to keep to myself, but people with no boundaries always gravitate toward me.
Inevitably, one must deal with other human beings, many of which have little understanding of where they end and others begin.
When I go out into the world, my radar is on high, and I require the strong control of the Holy Spirit to keep me from reacting to perceived threats. He reins me in and I am able to cope, or at least be civil.
The struggle within brings much anxiety, to the degree that I love staying home. If not for the prodding of the Holy Spirit, I would happily be a hermit, exchanging no space with the world. As I read through Psalm 138 this morning, I was reminded of the support I have in the Lord and why I live Him so much.
In all the crises that I have faced, I can say with great authority that I know that God is for me. He hears my cries and delivers me from my fears. I have found that the Holy Spirit fills me when I have to venture out. He takes control. My anxiety gives way to serenity, as I yield all things and people over to the Lord. I am delivered from all my fears.
In the deliverance, I can’t help but praise Him, and do so loudly. He is so faithful!
In Jesus I have endurance, as I know that He encountered far greater trouble than I have. As I praise Him, my peace is increased. I am always amazed when I encounter something in His word, or hear something in a sermon that reminds me that He is aware of what I am going through. His timing is impeccable! I know in those moments that He is working, and He will do what He will do.
“Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways. In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.”
Psalms 91:9-12 NKJV
Because I have confidence in Jesus, I have the power to love others, to minister with my whole heart. In the time of testing, He equips me in the moment to meet those I struggle with, in love and understanding. He is able to bridge the chasms that divide me from others.
In the times to come, we must call upon the Lord for strength and for His love to flow through us. It will be difficult to show Jesus to a hostile world, that may attack at the very mention of His name.
““Because he has set his love upon Me, therefore I will deliver him; I will set him on high, because he has known My name. He shall call upon Me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him and honor him. With long life I will satisfy him, And show him My salvation.””
Psalms 91:14-16 NKJV
Because we have set our love on Him, He will be with us, so let us have confidence to go an tell of the great Salvation that was purchased for us by Jesus on the cross, and of the power of the resurrection that brought newness of life.
“But now, thus says the LORD, who created you, O Jacob, And He who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by your name; You are Mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; And through the rivers, they shall not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you shall not be burned, Nor shall the flame scorch you.”
Isaiah 43:1-2 NKJV
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”
Matthew 28:19-20 NKJV
Regardless of what you are facing, know that He is there for you!
Go and serve your king!
