“Then Jesus said to them again, “Most assuredly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. All who ever came before Me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not hear them. I am the door. If anyone enters by Me, he will be saved, and will go in and out and find pasture. The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly. “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd gives His life for the sheep.”
John 10:7-11 NKJV
We live in a world full of options, various avenues, that we can choose to get to where we feel we can find what we desire. With every avenue or door, there are enticements, promising that, what lies beyond, is everything we could ever want.
All too often we choose a door and enter in, only to find that what is inside does not measure up to the hype. Once inside, there are dizzying lights and loud noises and it is difficult, if not impossible for us to find our way back out.
Somewhere at the end of this vast array of doors there stands a simple one, not ornate, or covered with gaudy colors or enticements, but it is alluring in its simplicity. It is an easy door to miss, and indeed, most overlook it as they are drawn to the other doors.
This morning I was reminded of all the doors I have entered in my life. There were so many wasted moments in my life, so many times when I found myself feeling around for that door knob on the inside so that I could escape. Life was futile, until I tried that one simple door.
In John chapter ten, Jesus confronts the religious authorities who were posing as shepherds, but who were, in reality, thieves and robbers. They had been entrusted with the sheep, but cared little for them and did not protect them. Jesus described Himself as the true door.
When I entered that simple door, I quickly realized that I had spent many years being deceived. Instead of dizzying lights and loud noise, I found the tranquility that is in Christ, as I found a clear path to my destination. Once inside, I received a Helper and a guidebook, to ensure that I would successfully make my way in this place of grace.
“But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.”
John 14:26 NKJV
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
II Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV
The other doors have no helps, no guides, only chaos. There is no path, just a confusog array of twists and turns, with unseen hazards that can lead one to sudden death.
We are living in a time when the doors are multiplying, as the evil is providing many opportunities for destruction, and avenues to hell. There are many pointing to these doors wanting nothing but to kill, steal, and destroy. There voices are loud and plentiful, and the culture itself is pushing all toward certain doom.
As those who have found the good door, we must open it, and beckon those who are passing by. We who believe are people who have benefitted from the wisdom of God. We must be like wisdom in the book of Proverbs crying out from the top of a high hill.
“Does not wisdom cry out, And understanding lift up her voice? She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, Beside the way, where the paths meet. She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, At the entrance of the doors: “To you, O men, I call, And my voice is to the sons of men. O you simple ones, understand prudence, And you fools, be of an understanding heart.”
Proverbs 8:1-5 NKJV
We must share the Gospel, the roadmap to the door, as time is short and many are searching for some truth, and finding only lies. The evil one is a thief as he deceives and entices the unsuspecting to their doom.
We are in a time when the Great Commission has more significance than ever before, as imposters are popping up and drawing confused people to false religions and churches where the Gospel of Jesus is not preached. We must go into all the world and preach the truth, that many come to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
“And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.”
Matthew 28:18-20 NKJV
Go forth and serve your King!
