“In You, O LORD, I put my trust; Let me never be put to shame. Deliver me in Your righteousness, and cause me to escape; Incline Your ear to me, and save me. Be my strong refuge, To which I may resort continually; You have given the commandment to save me, For You are my rock and my fortress. Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the wicked, Out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. For You are my hope, O Lord GOD; You are my trust from my youth. By You I have been upheld from birth; You are He who took me out of my mother’s womb. My praise shall be continually of You.”
Psalms 71:1-6 NKJV
In the early morning hours, in the time between sleeping and rising, my mind goes to the dark places, as past hurts come to to the surface. For a brief time, I am in the moment when the pain was at its greatest, where the humiliation tore through me. In that darkening place, the Lord reminds me that He has me, that I belong to Him, that I have a future assured, and I am not bound to the past.
In these unsteady times, I am constantly reminded of all the seasons that God has delivered me through trials, from wicked people, and affirmed me when others have sought to reject. He has been my advocate, the One who walks with me and before me.
I love reading through the Psalms as part of my annual read through, as they give me a constant reminder that God is for us. The writers of those Psalms were mere people, dependent people, needing God. They were not superhuman, nor were they always holy. Sometimes, they complained about the circumstances they faced. Even then, the faithfulness of God was magnified.
Though God was present and active in my life before, I feel like my path wiith the Lord began on the day that I said yes to the Gospel, and asked Jesus to forgive my sins. In that moment, I had an advocate in Jesus, as He died for my sins, was buried and rose again, and through forgiveness in Him, I was filled with the Holy Spirit. By that power, I am able to live. I am also being made new.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new.”
II Corinthians 5:17 NKJV
I have become a new creation, with a new future, and the past that the evil one seeks to remind me of, has no bearing on my life. The distinction of being new also affects my life going forward. When the slights come, the effect is greatly dampened, as I know that I belong to the Lord. I can take the flaming arrows and all the other assaults with the shield of faith and all the armor that God has given me through the Holy Spirit.
“Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints—”
Ephesians 6:14-18 NKJV
Through faith in Jesus, we have the support and power of God to withstand the enemy. We know that God is for us, from beginning to end, from birth, or new birth, to physical death, and beyond.
Because I know this, I can go into the world and live as a Christian with no fear, as I know that my enemies are no match for Jesus. I go on the offensive, taking the Gospel into the world in opposition, with boldness.
Brothers and sisters, do not fret over these things that the world is bringing to us, of demonic legistlation, or persecution. Instead, be reminded that you have the ultimate advocate, who has a plan that goes way beyond the here and now, and covers the grand breadth of eternity.
If you have paid attention to your bibles, you know that things are supposed to get worse and worse, and not better and better. This world is dying, as all things do. Only the Gospel can resist entrope.
Go out today and be bold!
Share Jesus with all who will hear, speaking up into the assembly, telling people of Jesus, who came into the world to save sinners. We are in a time of rescue, as the ship called earth is sinking, and beyond saving. The Gospel is a lifeboat, and we must be about the business of dragging people out of the water.
GO AND SERVE YOUR KING!!!
