Fork

““Behold, I set before you today a blessing and a curse: the blessing, if you obey the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you today; and the curse, if you do not obey the commandments of the LORD your God, but turn aside from the way which I command you today, to go after other gods which you have not known.”
‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭11:26-28‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Fork

We live in a world full of choices, or forks in the road. Every move we make, is a choice, another fork. In each choice there is a blessing or a curse. In my reading, Moses is advising the children of Israel of the fork that they face. In one direction there is blessing, as they keep the commandments of the Lord, and in the other direction they find cursing, as the Lord’s hand will be against them as they go after other gods.

The Old Testament is the foundation of our New Testament faith, and is chock full of types and shadows that provide an understanding of our unchanging God. What is true for the children of Israel, has spiritual truth for the individual believer today.

I awaken each day with choices to make. If I jump into my day with no regard for God, I can assume that many of those choices will be from my flesh, and bound to bring curses. My tendency is to do those things that satisfy my flesh and not edify the spirit. I want what feels good, even though the outcome may be bad.

When I start the day considering God, my choices are guided by the Holy Spirit, as I pray and seek His wisdom in His word. I find blessing, as I am living according to His will. My actions are given over to the building of the Kingdom, and not the satisfaction of self.

When I consistently follow the fork leading to God, I have a life that is filled with blessing and peace, as my decisions are confirmed by the presence of joy. I do what is right in the eyes of God, and there are no feelings of guilt, no shame, no regrets. My further decisions, and further forks are far easier to make and choose, as I am following the path illuminated by God’s word.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.”
‭‭Psalms‬ ‭119:105‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

It seems as if the fork in the road of life today is heavily weighted to toward the road to sin. That side is brightly lit, and there are many temptations beckoning us to go the way of the masses. We cannot see the destruction and destroyed lives around the bend.

With all the bright lights and loud noise, it can be disorienting as we are trying to make the right choice. Our world today is dominated by a cacophony of siren songs drawing yearning ears. We are like lonely sailors drawn to the hazards of the rocks along the shore.

I am praying for so many sons and daughters who have chosen the bright lit path, and strayed from the faith. Parents on my prayer list, know that I am praying for your kids, that they choose the right path at the fork. I am especially praying for those kids on the cusp of adulthood.

I am also praying that you choose wisely, from the forks in your own lives, as your children are watching you.

In these perious times, taking the wrong path comes with dire consequences, as it can be a choice between life and death.

Brothers and sisters, let us be the people standing at the fork, frantically pointing in the right direction, for those making choices. Let us tell of the hazards of going down the wrong path, let us also make sure that we make godly choices in our own lives. We are like wisdom calling out in the square.

“Does not wisdom cry out, And understanding lift up her voice? She takes her stand on the top of the high hill, Beside the way, where the paths meet. She cries out by the gates, at the entry of the city, At the entrance of the doors: “To you, O men, I call, And my voice is to the sons of men. O you simple ones, understand prudence, And you fools, be of an understanding heart.”
‭‭Proverbs‬ ‭8:1-5‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Let us lift our voices and bring the Gospel, that it be the competition for the bright lights, gaining attention, that souls be saved as people are drawn to the blessing of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Proverbs 1:7 (ESV) The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.

    Proverbs 2:1-6 (ESV) 1 My son, if you receive my words and treasure up my commandments with you, 2 making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; 3 yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, 4 if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, 5 then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding;
