“‘And if she is not able to bring a lamb, then she may bring two turtledoves or two young pigeons—one as a burnt offering and the other as a sin offering. So the priest shall make atonement for her, and she will be clean.’ ””
Leviticus 12:8 NKJV
In reading through the bible, one must needs stop in Leviticus. As I read the chapter, I am grateful that we who believe in Jesus are under grace and not the law. I am thankful that I need not worry about what I should eat, where I can mix fabrics, or any of the food restrictions. I rejoice in my freedom. I get to eat bacon!
This morning, I worked my way through Leviticus 12, and I was reminded of a passage I read other times in the book. This morning it hit me a bit harder. In verse eight, I read of the sin offering for a woman who had gven birth, who could not afford a lamb.
I thought of Mary and Joseph, poor and far from home. Mary had given birth of Jesus, and took her offering to the temple. With her was baby Jesus. The Lamb who would take away the sins of the world.
I marvelled at the glory of God as He had made provision for them from the foundation of the world. In caring for a poor couple via two turtle doves or two young pigeons, He was making a way for them to keep the law which would done away with in Christ.
It reminds me of God omniscience, and omnipotence, as He knows of and brings about every detail of what was, what is and what is to come. I consider Jesus and His great power, of his consistency as I face various trials. I am reminded daily that He never changes.
“Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Hebrews 13:8 NKJV
Joseph and Mary faced great adversity and uncertainty, as they walked by faith, and brought the Lamb of God into the world. I am sure her entire life was full of God’s provision as she proceeded to raise her family after Joseph had left the scene. Because of that witness in the bible to God’s faithfulness, I can know that He will be there for me as well.
Brothers and sisters, know this: God has provided for you, before you will ever have need. I can attest to His daily miracles and provision. I walk by faith each day, leaning heavily on Him. He has never let me down.
The coming days may be perilous, and there may be moments when all seems lost, but you can be sure that God is for you.
“What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?”
Romans 8:31-32 NKJV
GOD IS FOR US!
No matter what comes, He is for us, He sacrificed His Son to save us. He will not leave us or forsake us. I urge you to spend more time in the bible this year, as life becomes more difficult. You will find those nuggets, those treasures, that remind you of God’s provision.
Should the darkness come, we know the end of the story and we know that nothing can keep us from God’s love.
“Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? As it is written: “For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.” Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Romans 8:35-39 NKJV
We are surrounded by people who are struggling. Now is the time to go forth and tell of the great salvation that we have in Jesus.
If you have not called upon Jesus to forgive your sins, do so today. Darkness is deepening in the world we live in. Powers are moving and the world is shifting dangerously for everyone. In Christ, you have eternal certainty, a bright light at the end of a very long, dark tunnel. You can trust in God, for He delivers and cares for every one’s needs. He is coming quickly.
““And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, the First and the Last.” Blessed are those who do His commandments, that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter through the gates into the city.”
Revelation 22:12-14 NKJV
