Reminder

“When they heard the king, they departed; and behold, the star which they had seen in the East went before them, till it came and stood over where the young Child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced with exceedingly great joy. And when they had come into the house, they saw the young Child with Mary His mother, and fell down and worshiped Him. And when they had opened their treasures, they presented gifts to Him: gold, frankincense, and myrrh.”
‭‭Matthew‬ ‭2:9-11‬ ‭NKJV‬‬

Reminder

It had been a long journey. This band of travelers had seen the star in the east, some two years before, and knowing the Scriptures, they knew what it meant. They embarked on the adventure, laying aside everything in pursuit of the opportunity to see the Promised King. I am sure there were times when they felt like they would never find what they were looking for, but they continued, by faith. When reached there general destination, God provided a reminder to guide them the rest of the way.

The star that they had seen years before, supernaturally appeared in the sky and moved, and led them to the place where the Child was. Seeing the reminder, thrilled their hearts and brought them back to that moment they first believed.

This Christmas, for me, has been about reminders, about harkening back to my first real Christmas, after I had believed.

Each day, I have been reminded of that first time the Christmas star shined in my heart, the first time that hope moved away the darkness and sadness that had inhabited my soul.

The wise men, as we refer to them, brought treasure to the new born King, items of worth, and items of significance. They brought gold fit for a king, frankincense for a High Priest, and myrrh that would one day be for His burial.

I am sure Mary hid all these things in her heart, and I am sure, as she watched her little boy grow into a man, she remembered the frankincense, as He embarked on His ministry and brought the Message of the Kingdom to those who would believe.

I am sure she remembered the myrrh, as they nailed her little boy to the cross, and every strike of the nail pierced her heart.

I am sure she remembers the gold, as she is with her Son, the King, now glorified in Heaven.

Brothers and sisters, let us be reminded by the light of the Lord in our hearts, the reminder of the Holy Spirit, that tells us whose we are. Let us be propelled to go and seek, and find, and bring our treasure of devotion.

Let us rejoice each day at the great gift Jesus has given us in the great salvation. Let us take that gift, so wonderful, and present it to others, that they have the first real Christmas this year.

I am thankful for God’s greatest reminder: His word, that instructs my heart day by day. Let us spend time in it and be empowered to live the Gospel and have a constant burden for the lost.

Let us pray and praise the King of Heaven and thank Him for all He has done!
