“And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him. They shall see His face, and His name shall be on their foreheads. There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.”
Revelation 22:1-5 NKJV
I am sitting in my childhood home, surrounded by memories of people who have passed on. I miss them dearly, but I am blessed in that they frequently inhabit my dreams, and I am with them. Death is one of the many curses of sin in this world. I finished reading the bible, and I am eager to begin again tomorrow. As I neared the end, I read Revelation chapter twenty two, and I found myself absolutely maudlin, as I longed for that moment when the curse is gone and I get to see God and the Lamb. I will also see those in Christ who have gone before me.
When I look around at the world we live in, I see the destruction of the curse on everything. When I see demonstrations in the streets, I see the crying out of people who have been affected by the curse. I see people sick with disease and sin, I see people growing old, I see the profound sadness in the eyes of many I encounter. It is hard to ignore these days, as masks make us look to the eyes. Humanity is struggling like never before.
Each morning, I am reminded of the curse of sin and death on my own life, as new pains appear, and I experience the corruption of age. I drag myself out of bed, and make my first wobbly steps. Each morning, though, I am delighted to open the word of God and, for a brief moment, hold back the curse as I study and pray. in that moment, God is with me.
I am looking forward to the time when all will made new, and I will have the joy of serving the Lord in perpetual day, with no curse, no pain, no poverty, and endless love. We will be illuminated by the presence of God. I will be with Him.
I also wrapped up the Psalms this morning! I read Psalm 150, and joy was even more magnified.
“Praise the LORD! Praise God in His sanctuary; Praise Him in His mighty firmament! Praise Him for His mighty acts; Praise Him according to His excellent greatness! Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; Praise Him with the lute and harp! Praise Him with the timbrel and dance; Praise Him with stringed instruments and flutes! Praise Him with loud cymbals; Praise Him with clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD. Praise the LORD!”
Psalms 150:1-6 NKJV
Praise will be our occupation in the Kingdom to come, we will forever be with Him and exalt Him. Brothers and sisters, let us seek the Lord even now and praise Him for all that He has done. We can praise Him from the persepctive ones saved by the blood of Jesus on the cross, who paid our sin debts, that we be saved from hell. Even in the darkness that is the world we live in now, let us focus on that which is to come.
Let us occupy ourselves in the sharing of the Gospel, the Good News that sins can be forgiven, and future assured in these uncertain times. That the curse can be lifted, and life transformed. We are the evidence of God’s goodness in these present times. Each of us who has called upon the name of the Lord, is a trophy of God’s grace, saved to show His goodness.
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10 NKJV
Let us demonstrate the illumination of God in our lives today, that we be a light for those in darkness. Let us praise the One who died for our sins and made away that we saved and know an eternity in Heaven.
“He who testifies to these things says, “Surely I am coming quickly.” Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.”
Revelation 22:20-21 NKJV
