““The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace.” ’”
Numbers 6:24-26 NKJV
I need that blessing. This has been a year that has taken its toll on me and everyone else in this world. I feel like the world is at a tipping point, that we never get back to what we thought was “normal”, as the phrase “new normal” has fluid meaning depending on the given day.
I got up this morning, made my breakfast, got my coffee, and settled in to seek the Lord. Some mornings I come to His throne, burdened by my anxieties, by thoughts of things to come, burdened by the many people on my prayer list who are suffering. Deep, meaningful mean time with God has made me overly empathetic, as I have gotten get just of sample of the burdens on His heart. In my mere flesh, I am overwhelmed.
God always knows what I need, when I need it. I created the meme for the church Fb page and the Scripture of the day was precisely what I needed. , In the brief time that I read it, I was reminded that God is in the midst of all this turmoil, that I am not forgotten, and that He is bringing about things in my life that I can not imagine.
Brothers and sisters, I share this blessing with you. He loves you so much, that He sent His Son Jesus to live as one of us and die for our sins. He paid a sin debt He did not owe, for we who owed a debt we could not pay. I am reminded daily of the magnitude of His grace, as I fail daily. Even in my failure, I can see His transformation in my life as I find myself failing less and less, and diminishing in my desire for the things of this world.
God is Jehovah Shalom, the Lord our peace. I am calling on Him daily, as the world appears to spiraling out of control. He is my anchor, steadfast and secure, holding me still against the turbulant sea.
“And a great windstorm arose, and the waves beat into the boat, so that it was already filling. But He was in the stern, asleep on a pillow. And they awoke Him and said to Him, “Teacher, do You not care that we are perishing?” Then He arose and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Peace, be still!” And the wind ceased and there was a great calm.”
Mark 4:37-39 NKJV
Unlike the disciples, I know the peace of God, as He calms the waves in me, and has delivered me through many a storm. I know that I can rest easy.
Brothers and sisters, seek Him today. Spend some time in the Psalms, listen to some soothing worship music, pray for others. Pray for me. Remember that we have a Faithful Father, and that we can rest in Him, even when what is happening around us seems perilous.
Unbelievers, you too can know this great God of peace. In your unsaved state, you are an enemy of God. You are at war with Him. He will destroy those who are not His.
He came to bring peace, going to the cross, that the wrath of God be expressed upon Him. He has done the hard work for you, in that He has made that provision of peace. You must receive the gift of His grace. Do not leave it unclaimed. There is great loss for those who do not have their sins forgiven.
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”
Romans 15:13 NKJV
