“Make a joyful shout to the LORD, all you lands! Serve the LORD with gladness; Come before His presence with singing. Know that the LORD, He is God; It is He who has made us, and not we ourselves; We are His people and the sheep of His pasture. Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, And into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name. For the LORD is good; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations.”
Psalms 100:1-5 NKJV
I woke up this morning. In the awakening, I have a new day, a new hope and a blank slate of opportunity. It is a new day.
When I look back at this time last year, I had a bout of e coli that sent me to hospital on Black Friday. This year I am well. In that, I give thanks. Last year, I had not restarted the Prayer Chair, I had not written one word of a devotional, and my time with the Lord was spotty. Now, I awaken with anticipation of the time I get to spend with the Lord and read of His goodness and faithfulness.
This year has been unprecedented!
We have seen so many things happen in the span of 365 days, that we would never have expected. Many people have had their lives upended by shut downs, by riots, by illness, loss of loved ones and a future that is very much in doubt. Every holiday we have had this year, has been affected, or infected, and we find ourselves living through the nightmare of a surge in illness that shows no signs of letting up.
I woke up this morning.
I have learned to give thanks to the Lord for all the things that come into my life. I have learned to look back at the trials and see the single set of deep footprints of my Savior, pressed deep in the sands of life, and I know that He has carried me. Instead of thoughts of bitterness and pain, I am reminded of His faithfulness, of His boundless love, and How He cares for me. I find deep security in knowing that He knows my end from the beginning, and that He will be there waiting for me when time comes to leave this world and enter eternity.
Brothers and sisters, know that you have a Savior that is there for you, One who went to the cross and had one of the worst days imaginable, that we may have an eternal number of the “best” days to come. Seek Him even today, and give thanks. He is faithful always, and as constant as the sun rising in the east and setting in the west.
As we face the future, let us look to Jesus and consider His faithfulness. May we celebrate Thanksgiving everyday, and rejoice that He with us moment by moment.
“Oh come, let us sing to the LORD! Let us shout joyfully to the Rock of our salvation. Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving; Let us shout joyfully to Him with psalms. For the LORD is the great God, And the great King above all gods.”
Psalms 95:1-3 NKJV
“And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.””
Revelation 21:3-4 NKJV
We will have an eternity of days of thanksgiving as we bask in the light of God for all eternity. Let the celebration begin today!
