“Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD, O my soul! While I live I will praise the LORD; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being. Do not put your trust in princes, Nor in a son of man, in whom there is no help. His spirit departs, he returns to his earth; In that very day his plans perish. Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the LORD his God, Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever, Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners. The LORD opens the eyes of the blind; The LORD raises those who are bowed down; The LORD loves the righteous. The LORD watches over the strangers; He relieves the fatherless and widow; But the way of the wicked He turns upside down.”
Psalms 146:1-9 NKJV
Political parties have platforms, containing stances on which they run for office based on what they believe and the promises they make. Very seldom do parties follow through and complete what they have promised. It is now the time of transition in America. One party coming in, eventually, and another preparing to leave, eventually. In the anticipation of what is to come, there are hopes, dreams, fears and worries.
I am one who has seen many of these seasons of transition. I am always amazed as people allow themselves to get all worked up, only to realize after a few months, that it is business as usual. I have learned that man’s best efforts go nowhere, and that mere people cannot be relied upon in time of need.
As I have grown in my faith, I have come to realize that God’s platform is the only one that can truly be counted on. He keeps every promise, and guarantees His love and presence to all who believe. I found myself reminded of that as I read a passage in Psalm 146, exalting the Lord and all that He can do, and all that He has done.
I especially loved the part where the Scripture tells of the frailties of human leaders. During this election season I saw so many people running after men, placing their hopes and dreams in the hands of people who are here today and gone tomorrow. God is eternal, He does not flip flop, He does not curry favor, He is above all things. He does not have to play to a base, He is the base.
I know, by experience, that the Lord is present in time of trouble. He has carried me time and time again, and has been faithful.
“God is our refuge and strength, A very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, Even though the earth be removed, And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah”
Psalms 46:1-3 NKJV
Brothers and sisters, regardless of who takes office in January, we are going to face circumstances that will define the nature and depth of our faith. Around the world, persecution of Christians is rising as the time of the Lord’s return is near. Even here in the United States, we are seeing an uptick of hate aimed at bible believers, as the values of the bible run headlong into the values of an increasingly satanic world. We are going to see politicians that we trusted, sell us out, and even other “believers” we thought were like us, turn against those who are the true believers.
The things we cling to in this world for support, will become unreliable, and we will need to seek the Lord, the one who is steadfast and immutable.
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.” Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler And from the perilous pestilence. He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge; His truth shall be your shield and buckler.”
Psalms 91:1-4 NKJV
Let us dwell in the secret place of the most high, and have the daily knowledge that He is for us. Let us rest on the greatest platform of them all, one not built on the values of men, but those of the living God. On His platform we have a solid foundation, built by Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith.
““Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.”
Matthew 7:24-25 NKJV
