“The LORD upholds all who fall, And raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look expectantly to You, And You give them their food in due season. You open Your hand And satisfy the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all His ways, Gracious in all His works. The LORD is near to all who call upon Him, To all who call upon Him in truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear Him; He also will hear their cry and save them. The LORD preserves all who love Him, But all the wicked He will destroy. My mouth shall speak the praise of the LORD, And all flesh shall bless His holy name Forever and ever.”
Psalms 145:14-21 NKJV
I have been struggling with the dreams that have inhabited my night. I think all these times we are in, are creeping into my sleep, and adding to the daily dread I wake up with. Last night I dreamt of a storm blowing through the streets of my neighborhood. It was a winter storm with high winds and snow, that was way beyond the normal. I watched as big chunks of houses tumbled by, with siding and framing attached, and cars bounced like toys, all coming to rest against my house in a heap. Yet the walls of my house held fast.
Brothers and sisters, we are safe in the Lord.
Regardless of what happens in this material, temporal world, I know that my eternal destiny is secure. I find peace in looking past the situation we are in now and knowing that better things are coming, though we may not see it in this world. We are in perilous times, that seem more and more perilous with each passing day.
I am still soaking up Psalm 145 this morning. I am reminded that God’s kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, one with out end. He is in control from generation to generation. Because of that truth, I know that I can rely on Him. In the times when I have fallen, He has picked me up, He is most present when I am low, as self is out of the way, that the glory of God be shown.
We could easily find ourselves worried in these days, as the storms surround us. Like in my dream, we know that we have a shelter that will withstand the storm, that will stand long after the world has been blown away. He is aware of our needs, and will provide. I am feeling a great deal of calm, though I must admit, that at times the darkness invades. God is faithful, as His brightness lifts the darkness and blows it away, like a strong, holy wind blowing away the polution of this present time.
In these uncertain times, let us endure knowing that God is for us, that we are not alone. Let us also reach to each other and offer the encouragment that we can, as opportunity affords. Knowing that someone else is in the trial with you, can help one survive each day.
Be reminded that the Lord is near, that He is faithful, that He is at the end of all that we may face. I have found myself thinking a lot of the new heaven and the new earth, of that time when I will again walk in this world, again see nature, unpolluted by man’s attempt at creation.
All will be made new, as will I. We will behold nature in His glory as He intended. I am not sure we will even remember these times that we live in, or even the lives we lead. All the old things will have truly passed away.
We will experience His blessing forever and ever.
Make it your mission this day to tell someone about Jesus, about how He came and saved you from your sins and changed your future. Live today in the new life that God provided through His son. It is so easy to fall back into old coping strategies, which I know all too well. He has given us a new life, new supports and the power of the Holy Spirit to get us through.
“Now I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. Also there was no more sea. Then I, John, saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be their God. And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.””
